Say what you want. I just like facts to be told and Calzaghe is a fighter where facts dont get told and posters like yourself try and rewrite history to suit your agenda, whether that is patriotism or what, i dont know? I bet you didnt know that Calzaghe was in talks to be in a SMW comp back in the early 00s featuring himself, Jones, Hopkins and H Simon the undefeated WBO MW champ (still undefeated). Yet posters like yourself would try and rewrite that, based on a loose comment and not the full facts. the final was to be in America. Still enough of what you dont know. Other favourite fighters, possibly Garcia
LOL! Baily, Calzghe is all but forgotten. That is the real extent of his legacy. Not one poster listed his name in their favorites list. Why? Because he spent 90% of his career fighting bums when he should have been competing in high level competitive match-ups. :yep
Another know nothing on display here. We know hes not forgotten as a poster mentioned him to me on here when I posted a post without his name and with how many threads a month are made about him. thats the proof, there arent many boxers that have so many threads a month made about them . Do you think Hopkins, Jones, Eubank, Mitchell, Lacy, Brewer, Veit, Woodhall, Reid, Kessler were not big names? They were all SMW champs and top 10 when Calzaghe handled them. This era is so weak even a faded Bika has become a SMW champ and Calzaghe beat him prime he was prime. That is more than 90% of his career and I could add more to that. as i say, you dont know :yep
As I said, you see Hopkins, Jones, Ward's names in ATG lists, but hardly ever that of Joe Slappy White Calzaghe. The era is so weak it forced Joe into cocaine induced retirement.
I don't have a favorite, but some that I like a lot are Cotto, Martinez,Mattyshhe, Maidana, Garcia, Golovkin, Kovalev, both Pacquaio and Mayweather to an extent Past would be Henry Armstrong, Foreman, Robinson, Duran, Hearns, Hagler, Louis, Ali, Whitaker, Pep, Chavez
All Time: Arguello Trinidad Ali Duran Leonard W. Gomez Holyfield Erik Morales James Toney Today Floyd, Pac, Bradley, and BHop
Just no nonsense fighters in that ring who gave it their All and have given me my best moments in the sport. Many more though.
Mayweather, Mike Jones, Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Sergio Martinez, Erislandy Lara, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Danny Garcia, Paulie Mallignaggi
yes I know you see these as 'facts', but like our private conversation re-belts revealed, we both do agree that belts aren't everything - yet they are critical to your defense of joe (not that he should need as much defending as some people think), and I doubt you would rally a defense in his favor without them. reversing the judgments several others have made about you (bias towards british fighters based on patriotism) simply to 'throw it back in people's faces', isn't the way to overcome that bias. like assassin, you always get very defensive when someone challenges your point of view, or logic behind it. even if a SMW tourney was in talks way back when, it never came to fruition, just like calzaghe-hopkins didn't (when it mattered most). it's one thing 'being in talks', it's another thing actually making the fight. simon holding a belt and being undefeated shouldn't even be an issue, should it? not in this sport.
this is exactly what i'm talking about drop the belts argument as if it bolsters calzaghe's resume - it doesn't - not for him or any modern day fighter. there are approx. 80+ bogus titlists in boxing, and that's just the major belts. you can either help to educate new followers of the sport who don't yet know that all fighters with a belt are anything but world champions, or you can hang onto them because you need them for leverage when talking about calzaghe. joe was a 100% legit world champion, you shouldn't be trying to compensate for his poor career path. saying "this era is so weak", is just you trying to make calzaghe's era look better than ward's. just like you consciously not listing calzaghe as one of your favorite fighters was an effort to deflect the bias you hold.
