Marciano anybody? I'm picking Joe Louis from the list. Probably just because I love to watch him box.
Rocky did make the cut at #11 for best hooker. Right above @Journeyman92s Mum at #10 and just under Sonny Liston at #12. This content is protected
Hey Rich! Good eye on the thumbnail. This fight has always been a hard for me to watch considering the back story of Joe Louis at this point in his life. Anyway shout out to Rocky and his left hook. This content is protected
Kind of sad to watch buddy, with all due credit, Rocky Marciano's left hook was no joke but the great Joe Louis had to come back, he owed the IRS $90,000.00 in back taxes due to conniving management not paying his taxes each fight.
Yes a sad watch that one. Saint Joe's last fight I think. Checking Joe's record - at the beginning of his pro career 1934 - Joe had 12 fights in a 6 month period!
Not an uncommon answer but Dempseys left hook (per films and as described in the literature) was a lethal and oft used weapon. However you rate Willard at best and specifically for his fight against Dempsey, the sublime quality of the left hook that rendered the first KD is irrefutable. An absolutely beautiful, fast, perfectly on point punch - aided and abetted by the Dempsey “roll” - with max. power trained down to the fist. Willards opposing cheek explodes out like a balloon on impact. Apparently it didn’t break anything - it certainly looked like it could have.
On a lower tier, David “Hand Grenades” Bey had a pretty good left hook - certainly got Larry Holmes attention some years back.
I guess Razor Ruddock’s “Smash” punch - the hybrid hook/uppercut doesn’t count here. Louis sort of threw a hybrid shot when he virtually lifted 233 lbs of bum moidering Galento off the canvas. What a punch that was! Like a single handed curl of a massive weight. Who said that Louis never “lifted”?
No it did not make the cut on this thread but Razor did make the #7 spot for best nicknames of all time thread!
