We are half-way through the year, with still many great fights to come in the 2nd half.

Up to this point who do you think is in the lead for fighter of the year for 2008.

    It's too early.

The main contenders are Pacquiao, Cotto and Margarito. I'll probably tip the winner of July 26, unless Manny fights and dominates someone better than Valero in his final fight this year.

Pavlik's opposition will have been too soft, as will Calzaghe's. They needed each other to have a chance.

Guys who fight in the next month could have another fight this year, so scheduling will have a say as well.

A bit repetitive i know,The PACMAN ,pretty easy that choice .Behind him, possibly Pavlik for proving his victory over Taylor was no fluke as well as destroying the admittedly limited and outclassed Gary Lockett.Third Calzaghe for beating a fading bhop ,Although he did take his time facing some of bhops caliber .Still a key result in cementing his legacy

    Mijares or Pac.

I don't care what the judges saw. Mijares completly out classed Munoz. No way should it have been a split decision. It was a tremendous performance that Mijares didn't get nearly enough credit for because of poor judging making the fight appear close and with the fight being in the lighter weight classes.

If Campbell convincingly beats Guzman, he should be a lock to have it this year even though I believe the boxing writers will think differently.

Pac's resume for 2008 sums up to a questionable win against JMM and a win vs. an average boxer, Diaz. (though a questionable win against JMM has more value in my book than a convincing win against many other fighters)

Calzaghe's consists of a close win against a faded yet always a pain in the ass Hopkins.

Pavlik's has Taylor, a boxer he has already beaten and an outmatched Gary Lockett.

    Cotto's consist of a tune-up match with a C-level figher, Gomez.

    Dawson, Haye... nah...

OK, I'm giving Pac the benefit of the doubt but I also like Nate Campbell, Christian Mijares and Israel Vazquez at this point of time.

Honorary mention is awarded to Steve Molitor.

    Subject to change.

Not sure why Calzaghe is not on the list. He bat the #3 p4p.

    Leading contenders are:

    Manny
    Calzaghe
    Cotto
    Mijares

I couldn't vote for Pac because I didn't think he beat JMM.

That's a good call. He has to do it cleanly, but if he gets it, he should be a strong contender.

However, what if Margarito were to end up with KOs of Cintron and Cotto? I have a hard time seeing how he couldn't get it. Obviously, if the fight is close, it opens the door wider for others.

He'd have to get another belt to be a front runner.
