Hopkins was a very questionable choice for PfP at that point, as many of us posted for over a year. And Joe's other bout is against a totally shot fighter in a meaningless contest, so he's out.

If you were going to assemble a top four, I think Pacquiao, Cotto, Margarito and Campbell have to be in it. Can't see Mijares winning it this year, although 2009 or 2010 he'll have a shot.

Not sold on any of those guys yet, but we got 5months to go.

Right now I gotta go with Berto, yeah that's a cop-out.. I know.

    1 quality win doesn't = FOTY

2 decent to good wins trumps 1 win everytime in my book.

I would say Pacquiao up to this point since JMM and David Diaz are for sure no walk in the park. Someone said that the July 26th winner would get the nod between Cotto vs. Margarito? I think it all depends on how that bout goes.

Lots of great candidates this year. Nobody really stands between (Pacman, Campbell and Vasquez) and (Margarito, Cotto, Casamayor and Pavlik) could still do something big until the end of the year.

It is very close to call. The next 6 months will be telling. If Margarito beats Cotto, Cambell beats Guzman and if the proposed Mijares - Montiel fight comes of this year and Mijares wins then it would be hard to choose out of those three as they all would have beaten two of the top contenders in their divisions.

I really can't see Vazquez winning it. His handlers said he is going to have a long lay of and if he does fight again this year then i think it will be against a soft opponent.

I picked Pavlik because i thought he deserved the nod last year for his crowd pleasing brawls with Jose Luis Zertuche & Edison Miranda as well as his division changing KNOCK-OUT of undefeated Jermain Taylor.

I'd say either Manny Pacquiao or Nate Campbell if he beats Guzman this upcoming fall.. Although Pac defeated JMM and Diaz, Campbell defeated Juan Diaz and talked a lot of game which most of it was true or courageous and he could possibly win another good fight with Guzman.. But there's always a fight with Hatton looming in the air before the end of the year.. So I'd say so for through the year, Pacquiao & Campbell are the front runners..

Ok i'm a big Joe C fan, but i reckon at the mo Pac is fighter of the year. BUT what if Joe takes out RJJ pretty convincingly by somekind of brutal TKO?! i know its not likely to happen and i wasnt looking for a "joe cant hit for ****" argument, was just saying! But if joe does take him out convincingly and puts on a Lacy show but with the TKO, will he become fighter of the year consider ing he beat Hopkins and RJJ in one year, two future HOF. ( i know all three are past there best but they are atill big names)

You should also include Cotto and Margarito after The Battle they will have on HBO PPV July 26th.
