where there is smoke.....theres more smoke.:deal

joel casamayor for me. had decent interest early in his career. then got dropped form the big company's for his technicaslly precise fighting but lack of flash and exsplosivness found in what most television company's want. fought the hard way and got to fight the best in his divisions never being beaten decicivly or lost more than 5 rounds until he was in his late 30's. while at the high point of his career got ****ed over by the wbc for wanting to unify the titles, then that guy wins his title anyways after morales fails to win the lightweight title.

Hozumi hasegawa comes to mind. TS is on point about collazo, he deserves a big fight. I had him winning against hatton and berto

    Ronald "winky" Wright,

    achievements:

Fought the best and prime version of Ferocious Fernando Vargas, suffered a controversial loss. Many observers had winky winning, Vargas was highly regarded at the time, many felt this played part in the outcome.

Went onto school Shane Mosley twice, not many fighters can lay claim to that, apart from the late Vernon Forrest. Mosley was coming off arguably the biggest win of his career over De la Hoya, but Winky determined as ever pitted himself with one of the most skilled fighters at that time and came out on top TWICE and doing it very well.

Next he "beat up" Felix Trinidad, regarded as p4p at one point. Again not many fighters beat up Trinidad, apart from Bernard Hopkins. Beat him up like he was his daddy.

A year later, took on a undefeated and much bigger highly rated Jermaine Taylor (not the Taylor of today). Taylor was coming off the biggest victory's of his career over Bernard Hopkins, the fight was scored a draw, with many observers having Winky winning.

Took on a legend in Bernard Hopkins at light heavy weight, made it a competetive fight, came up short.

    Reasons:

Further, Winky has fought all over the world, he fought in the south America's, in Europe, he went where ever the fights took him. Don't get many fighters who would do that.

Couple that with, fighting anyone from 147 - 170 lbs. Take note Floyd, the majority of his opponents were either a similar size to him or bigger, and elite opposition where possible.

What people fail to realise is, when Winky fought the big names on his resume, nearly all apart from Bernard were in their prime. But Bernard is an exception to most rules. Vargas was hungry young fighter, Mosley ontop of his game, Taylor was the best he was ever going to get.

I always felt winky deserved a pay day, i fail to understand why a fight between him and Oscar De la Hoya was never made, especially after winky beat mosley who had just beaten Oscar. I mean Oscar was golden boy, he could make a fight with anyone. But it is understandable why De la Hoya would be reluctant to get it on with Winky.

That said winky recently lost to an awkward Paul Williams, whether it was the 2 year lay off or just age or maybe a combination of everything.

My most under-rated fighter is Ronald "winky" Wright, a fighter whos beat some big names in their prime, yet never got the limelight of his opposition, i.e Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley.

I mean compare Kelly Pavlik to Winky, whos got the better resume, but whos got the bigger draw?

You could argue fight styles, i guess thats down to whether you enjoy boxing or brawling.

.. finally i'd like to apologise as there is an existing thread about the under-rated fighter, but I couldnt find it, but props to the guy who started it. You get some ridiculous threads on here, e.g. china chin ratings.... i mean come on.

It would help if he fought more. "hey, remember when he beat.... oh yea, that was three years ago". Fans will forget to an extent. Unless, your a SRL, Tyson, Oscar, etc. It might be too late. He should have stayed in the light.

Hlathshwayo? Could be a good one. . .Clottey for some reason ducked this Hlatshwayo or refused to defend against him or something like that.

Anyway, Collazo and Sergio Martinez are my two underrated fighters but I don't think Sergio is underrated no more!
