I remember reading in a book about him that the level of morphine in his blood wasn't at a lethal level when they measured it. (It was a biography, not some conspiracy book.)

sonny liston threads are great. the amount of BS you read is unbelievable. i suppose you need to blame his downfall on something than rather than being beat by a better boxer (he was over 50 when he fought clay LOL).

Your following into the common beliefs about his life. He had many bad moments in his life, but for the most part he was a good family man. His intimidating attitude was for the public. He was much different in his personal life according to his family.

I remember hearing that at the time of his death, he wasn't the raging alcoholic gambling maniac many believe him to have been

this is what i'd read and always liked to believe about sonny.
its all speculation about how he died and how on the level his fights his ali were.depends on who you are and what you want to believe.
i'm a fan of sonny and think had he been given a little bit more luck, he wouldn't have boxed at all.

Just recently read Ron Lyles book an he swears Liston wouldn't take heroin because he was scared of needles an that he was murdered. He played liston in a reconstruction on an episode of unsolved mysteries an said the main reason he did it was to try an get to the bottom of who killed him

It's a shame that Sonny was banged up in prison during the 50's. If he had n't have been,he'd have become champ a lot earlier, and there'd be more positive memories of him.

I saw Pinklon Thomas playing Liston in something similar on TV a few years back.

The usual guess is Sonny was around 40 at his death, but I'm wondering why yours is twenty more?

Actually I think it's reasonable to assume that he was well past his best against Ali and was probably a few years older then what his birthdate said

Has anyone ever read or owned the book Sonny Liston,: The champ nobody wanted by A. S Young? This came out in the early 60's, when Liston was still champ. This always sells for over hundred bucks on Ebay and the cheapest copy listed on Amazon right now is 149.00. I would guess it's a very basic bio but was always curious about it because of the high price.
