I think Liston did a bit better in this fight than usually given credit for.
Who do you guys think landed the most punches before the fight was stopped?

I guess Ali landed more punches overall. The first round Ali won but Sonny was in it. Liston was dishing it out too. The last completed round Liston was not punching much.

You might ask if the powerhouse Liston did catch Ali with ANYTHING to rate Alis chin from. Thats what he was supposed do, like he did the other KOs/TKOs prior.

Liston landed more punches by compubox. The "blind" round skewed the figures.

Hard to say who really landed more shots.

If I remember correctly, even then he didn´t land anything cleanly!

    Yeah, that's exactly it.

Compubox doesn't give you any idea what actually happens in a fight. if someone lands a southpaw left thumb on the shoulder it counts the same as a flush uppercut resulting in a KD.

Punch stats don’t come with arbitrary asterisks pertaining to what a fighter “should” do based on his reputation.

Not that I don’t trust that you might, but do you have a basis for that claim?

Because I just read this: “CompuBox doesn't count the love-tap, pitty-pat punches that boxers often throw without much force while holding each other or being entangled.”

    From this article:
    https://www.techtimes.com/articles/...gs-statistics-generator-30-years-counting.htm

Which seems to directly contradict your statement.

Do you think it's likely or unlikely that compubox have ever counted a punch that was badly or partially landed as a punch?

    Ever? Extremely likely.
I don’t think it happens enough to warrant your level of skepticism. Not even close.

However, if you have the same book that I have, we can actually attempt a crowd sourced verification for one single round.

Personally, I was somewhat taken aback when I read those stats.

Just consider my statement in the light of that fact.

    What book?

    I am.

Compubox released a book with punch stats they did for every single Ali fight. Great book.

No, I don't have that book.

Ah, I assume then that they scored that particular fight and published their results at a different time.

I’m curious as to whether or not we even have the same stats. I’ll post the ones I have in a minute.

I'm still intrigued as to who 'landed' more punches in Ali-Liston 2.
