Jerry Quarry had the luxury of fighting in one of the best rated eras in the sport's history, while Witherspoon fought during the il faded 80's.

Witherspoon had the claim to two Alpha titles, the WBC and WBA, while Quarry's cliam to faim was having his name linked to Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Quarry had wins over Floyd Patterson, Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle, Buster Mathis, Mac Foster, Jack Bodell, Lorenzo Zanon, Thad Spencer. Tim Witherspoon had wins over Tony Tubbs, Greg Page, Renaldo Snipes, Frank Bruno, James Tillis, James Smith, James, Broad, Carl Williams, Jose Ribalta and Jorge Luis Gonzalez.

Both had great resumes, but only one had real stardum.

You be the judge as to who was the better of the two :good

Provide a detailed history on both fighter's lives.

    Where they came from

    Family history

    Early childhood

    Trainor(s)

    Role Models

    Sparring Partners

Incidental occurences that may or may not have effected them

Habbits, bad or good. If drug habbits, what did they use?

Whores? How many, and what specific activities?

Both men were coastal fighters: Did they like sea food?

While Witherpsoon might have been a bit of an underachiever, he did achieve a lot.

Witherpsoon beat some good bangers too. Frank Bruno, Bonecrusher Smith, Greg Page, Renaldo Snipes, and Jorge Gonzalez.

Witherspoon also defeated some good boxers in Quick Tills, Tony Tubbs, and Carl Williams.

One difference between Witherspoon and Quarry was Witherspoon proved he could make a very good showing vs a prime all time great in Larry Holmes. Quarry was badly outclassed by Ali, and did not make the distance with Frazier.

In a head to head sense, I think Witherpsoon was a little better than Quarry. Witherspoon was a better boxer, a better puncher, a smarter fighter, and had the better chin / resistance to cuts. History never saw Witherpsoon vs Tyson. IMO, Witherspoon would have been Tyson’s toughest test in the 1980’s.

Witherspoon Wins - Bruno, Bonecrusher Smith, Tillis, Page, Tubbs, Carl Williams, Ribalta, Al Cole, Jorge Gonzalez

Qaurry Wins - Lyle, Shavers, Patterson (close), Mac Foster, Middleton

    Prime Losses

Quarry - Frazier/Ali - both 1 sided - other losses to Norton, Chuvalo, Ellis, Machen

Pinklon Thmoas - Holmes/Thomas - both very close, Smith - already beat smith took him for granted and got caught cold - Thomas lost allot of fights at the end of his career when he was completely shot and these shouldnt be held against him

Witherspoon did better against the elite. He also has the overall better wins and broader range of wins

I like Tim, but Jerry fought in the better era, and I could see him being a champ in the 80's era. Can't say the same for Tim in the 70's era.

Quarry..just because of the caliper of fighters he faced. Ali, Frazier, Ellis, Chuvalo, etc....And not to mention he decided to go head to head with Frazier..You gotta be one tough SOB to even try that ****...Ive always had alot of respect for Quarry.

Spoon has the edge over Quarry in the legacy dept.... I mean, Christ, Spoon has two world title belts from the WBC and WBA while Quarry has zero... Quarry did technically face and lose to bigger names than what "The Spoon" faced, but Spoon fought and beat some bad mo-fo's, too..... I gotta go with Tim Spoon.....

I see Jerry holding the WBA title at some point in the eighties.
