At least 37. His birthyear, I've read is between 1927-1930. He could have been 40 years old in 1967. But I'm on the same page regarding Fraizer being the most likely one to have ended Liston's reign of terror. Not to say it woukd have been easy, but I don't think a version of Liston 5 to 10 years past his prime could be expected to do what a 1973 George Foreman did. Although, because of the styles, Liston would still be dangerous as long as he could punch.

So I do think Fraizer would have tasted the canvas.

The census of 1940 listed Sonny as 10 years old from what I have read. So he was born in 1930. To me this appears accurate.

I read that his mom said he was born in 1928 and I think Brittania Encyclopedia had him listed as born 1928. And in 1950, when he went to prison, he was listed as 22 years old which would have given him a 1927-28 birth year.

On the other hand, the census could indeed be correct. Personally I believe that he was born somewhere between 1927 and 1930. In the Williams fight that I posted, which happened in 1960, if either one of those years are correct, he'd be between 30 and 33 years old.

And looking at him, he does look like he could be in his early 30s. Late 20s at best, but just looking at him, I can buy that he was somewhere between 30 and 33 years old.

He certainly didn't appear to be well into middle age as some claim. But you could be right about him being born in 1930.

Wow, that would make Liston 87 years old today. He would be some years older than my grandparents.

I've read the posts. Sonny may have been much older than they say.
Just some brief comments on what I've read:
Even as an old man he would have busted Chuvalo into (in Cosell's words: a bloody pulpy mess!)
Terrell? Maybe the 'octopus' could hold and clinch enough and he could take a fair amount of punishment but I don't see that.
Doug Jones? Come on, the little fella's out like a light early.
    Probably Frazier.
With his age, and 'demons', I don't see Sonny being any kind of dominant force by 1967.
It's a shame he couldn't have been brought along better and hit prime by, say, 1955 or thereabouts.
