Seriously, I complain about them every fight. Why can't we get Commentators that make fights exciting and add to the atmosphere. Not just moan the whole way through about the fight being more competetive than you thought. The Bute fight last night was compelling and enjoyed it alot. But the commentators could easilly have put me off with there whining. If Jim What was sat on my sofa last night moaning as he was all fight, id have given him a slap. Seriously can we get a commentator that discuses the action more and builds up the excitement of what was a close entertaining fight.
It is dire. Watt is mind numbing. All we do is listen to them talk about the fight and complain. There is absolutely no drama, no excitement, no atmosphere, no real fight analysis of an emerging pattern of the bout swinging too and fro. All of these things are present in slower bouts but they just aren't good enough at their job.
I would rather listen to SKY's commentators than John Rawling on Boxnation.... that **** drives me crazy with his innane drivel.
I dont think rawling understands that there are other punches in boxing apart from the right hand, every 5mins you hear, OH GOOD RIGHT HAND. I like watt, does talk nonesense but hes got the perfect voice for drama
I think we do all right with the Sky lads. Jim Watt always comes across as objective and on the money, dour yes but better than some of the over excited drivel you get from states and the agenda you get from BN where I feel they talk up EVERY fight as a humdinger.... I realise he's busy, but I'd love to hear more commentary from Barry and Jamie. It's great when they get Froch on for his insights to. Sky are OK.
For the Bute fight, I thought Watt was actually good and objective and speaking the truth which is not always the case. The **** next to him, cannot remember the guys name was coming up with cliche after cliche and offering no real insight at all though.
Last night was poor, they didn't credit Larry at all in the first fight even when he did good work they'd say how McEwan's doing well and ''he's doing the more work''. It smacked of ''We want him to win, Matchroom stable and hype him up''. Then they waxed lyrical as soon as they knew he'd win the comp.
The main difference I see is the lack of humour in the UK commentating. Always great banter between the Showtime lads. HBO too especially when Jones Jr is on the job. Call me nuts but I used to like McCrory alongside ****** back in the day. They did used to have a bit of a laugh commentating. Obviously Glen isn't the most insightful in the world but it was more fun imo.
I personally have no problem with Jim Watt. Yes he moans a bit, but he knows his stuff and the fact that I have been listening to him since I became interested in the sport before Sky moved it away from the masses adds to his charm for me. I like Ian Darke and Glenn McCrory, I like Adam Smith and I like John Rawlings, I think Paul Smith and Enzo Mac both have their moments, and I think big Ron Mac is excellent, but for me the best we currently have is Jim Neilly. Yes there are some very good American commentators, but more often than not when I watch an American broadcast I cringe and wish some of our lads would take over. Ok ours aren't perfect (unlike Reg Gutteridge) but they could be alot worse IMO, I think on balance I know which ones I would choose.
