Watching the fight last week, it struck me that Mundine has a following that borders on Ricky Hatton-esque levels of Ineptitude. In fact thats a little unfair on Hatton's fans as there are a number of knowledgable fans who follow him. I truly would like to know if Mundine's followers are representive of Australian boxing fans?
I think its more a case of people supporting whoever Mundine is fighting. Most people watch his fights in the hope they will see him get KOed. He is not well liked in Australia due to his big mouth.
Well on here you have myself, Pecks, MSTR, Hmmm, Pork Chop, Ozziebattler etc etc etc who are all fairly unbiased and level headed posters who admire his ability rather than his personality. Does this answer your question or are you looking more for the dirt?
You seem to be in a minority of vaguely inteligent fans, because most crowds he gets are made up of people who want to be extras in Underbelly.
Almost all boxing crowds are full of blood thirsty mobsters. I think Mundines fans are quite timid eg. you had Steve Waugh there the other night in a Flannel shirt and his hands on his knees
Im a huge fan of Mundine's boxing ability and money making ability...not a fan of his selection of opponents.
As a boxing fan and an Aussie, I have personally enjoyed following Mundine's career, I also understand how his personality is disliked by many, especially non-boxing fans. I couldn't really give a **** if Mundine's a wanker, alot of boxers are! I enjoy watching his development purely as a fighter and although I wouldn't hang around with the bloke, I can appreciate his boxing talents
I agree. He is a talented fighter and is one of the best super middleweights around, but his refusal to actually fight anyone of note is what annoys me most.
Aussies have a great talent in Mundine and also that other young fellow who looks like him in a lower weight class. That young kid is something special.
