It was called the OWGP and PRIDE invited many UFC fighters too it. Only one came and got his ass handed to him. It would have had to be held in Japan though to break attendance and possible PPV numbers.
I miss pride but it took 3 months to make a show, the UFC is a business, pride was a no expenses spare fighting extravaganza.
Absense makes the heart grow fond. You had cards stacked from top to bottom with insane depth and like a good **** you had to wait for it. The UFC is like cheap ***** you can get around the corner every weekend. Theres no bells whistle flair or quality. Its just a lame blow job and a quick spunk. Then the ***** gets thrown out of your car until next time.
The GP's were the best and ultimate tournament. Thats where legends were made. The old UFC used to have them. I think Sengoku have got one on soon.
yea that's when i get to watch the best fights and fantasy fights i've been wanting to see. If it wasn't for the grand prix crocop vs the axe murderer wouldn't have happen.
yea i was actually excited to see many of the pride fc stars come to ufc but for the most part a lot of them have been a disappointment. Crocop-Wanderlei i thought would have dominated their weight class in UFC. I'm glad to see shogun finally showing the world why he was the best in pride.
Haha. I thought you might take exception to that. I do feel that was a great event. It didn't have the epic encounter of a Wanderlai vs Rampage or Fedor vs Crocop type fight - but it did have solid back and forth battles from the bottom to the top of the card. Definitely one of the best events of the year.
Why the **** is everyone so engrossed by the "pageantry" of Pride? Go watch Miss America or some ****. Don't you care about the FIGHTING? I am so sick and tired of everyone crying because the UFC doesn't have fireworks and national anthems. It's ridiculous.
I can't speak for anyone else - but I know I miss the pageantry of Pride because I loved the spectacle of it all. Yes, it was often just smoke and mirrors but there were also times when they featured things like traditional Japanese drummers in a celebration of the warrior tradition. The fight business has always been as much about show business as it has been about fighting. Go back to the days of Tex Ricard and Jack Dempsey and you'll see they were filling seats by selling the spectacle of it all. Anyone can see a fight on a street corner but we want to see the best fighters, technicians and artists of the world display their skill, talent and courage in the ring and we want to celebrate that fact. We want to celebrate the fact that these are the best fighters in the world putting on a performance what we are about to become witness to many never be experienced again. That or I'm just talking out of my ass. Haha.
