I think Toney, who by then was 38, probably deserved to win the first match with Peter.

(As an aside, Maskaev was 39 and hadn't fought in over a year, when he met and lost to Peter. The stoppage wasn't all that impressive, in my opinion).

Sam Peters in the 1960s would be like dropping an iPhone into the hands of starving children from the Medieval times.

    And what a record too!

It took a Maurice Harries to beat Jeremy Williams!

I trained a plumber one time who said that Patterson was a joke, and wouldn’t lift a 20lb dumbbell without breaking his arm. All the other plumbers laughed and agreed. We went out for Applebee’s after.

I guess one out of three ain't bad.

But, even that 'one' seeming attribute turned out to have been overblown, as he was unable to really demonstrate that he was all that "powerful", against anyone but unknowns and burnouts.

The fact that the only good ko anyone can post of Peter over an opponent is the Jeremy Williams example says all you need to know about Peter...

I don’t think Johansson could beat Peter.. Archie might outclass him. But Wladimir Klitschko who had far more size, strength, power and athleticism than Ingo was still having a hell of a time with Peter... I think peter bulldozes Johansson

    Maybe you underrate Johansson.

Wladimir was also destroyed by Sanders in 2, by Brewster in 5, and struggled against Williamson, so Peter giving him hell (and STILL losing a wide decsion) needs to be seen in that context.

Jeremy Williams was coming off wins over 35-1 Andre Purlette and 29-1 Attila Levin too !
He was also on a "winning streak" since losing to 56-1 Brian Nielsen a few years earlier.

So we might even be able to put prime Sam Peter on the same pedestal we have Brian Nielson on.
    Greatness.

If Nielsen was around in Patterson's day ..........

personally I think Pat is one of the best posters on here and possesses a solid understanding of the craft. Nothing trolling about his post, but I guess that is the easy road to engage in name calling if you want to shut down a discussion rather than engage in one.

He calls Peter " fast, well schooled, and powerful". He said he'd stop Moore, Patterson, Johanson all in one round. He said that had Peter fought in 1960s, he'd be called one of the greatest fighters ever. He said he looks better than Liston...

Nah, he's not one of the best posters here. All he does is worship modern fighters and call every single oldschool fighter crude, unskilled, amateurish, unathletic ect.
