We have just witnessed Errol Spence beat Kell Brook into submission in an enthralling encounter where Spence' blistering body assaults proved too much for a game and skilled champion in Brook, proving Errol is indeed 'The Truth'. With the news that Keith Thurman will be out of action until 2018, who would you like to see the new IBF king make his 1st defence against?
I'd really like to see him get 2 defenses in this year, that might be a bit ambitious since its already late May so he probably ends up with just one defense this year. Thurman unification is the big fight for him but that's probably not happening this year with Thurman's injury. The IBF top 15 is pretty thin, even though 147 is deep, so he probably defends against someone most won't care for like Collazo or Ray Robinson.
Spence talked about wanting to fight in Dallas for his first defence, maybe a Mexican opponent would make sense from a financial perspective? I recall Ponomarev was supposed to fight Spence in an eliminator last year but I don't remember why it never happened, that would be a great way to begin his reign considering how highly the Russian is rated. With the Thurman fight around the corner for next year it will more likely be a slightly softer touch, realistically. I know the IBF are strict compared to other sanctioning bodies but would Spence not be given a voluntary defence against any boxer of his choosing or would it have to be someone ranked with them? I would love to see him tempt Bradley as that would give Spence another chance to show us more of what he is capable of but in truth I can't see any welterweight giving him as good a fight as Brook, except maybe 'One Time' (a year) Thurman.
i would love to see a pac fight, but thats near impossible. garcia is my next pick, hopefully haymon is ready to cash him in.
I want Mattysse to get the Garcia rematch, could be a possibility if Lucas is still with Haymon? Pacquiao/Spence would be an absolute dream. Would like to see Cotto too but can't see Miguel going for it.
Please don't act like it wasn't a close fight. Spence showed that he definitely isn't the next coming of Ray Robinson as many are claiming him to be.
I am not acting like it wasn't a close fight, I made a post in this very thread saying I can't see another welter giving Spence as tough a challenge with the possible exception of Thurman. Kell gave a great account of himself but Spence was just too much.
I think that he should go ahead and get Porter out of the way. Porter is supposed to be Thurman's mandatory so if he knocks Porter off that list then it is a straight shot to Thurman.
boxing pundits and reporters should start grilling pac about it, assuming he still looks world class in the meantime. that could be a huge fight in december. pac doesnt have many fights left and this one would make big money, circumstances might convince arum to take the gamble. that would give spence a chance for an easy touch before the fight. the reason i like the garcia fight, is because comparing what spence can do with danny, to thurmans effort, would keep the debates raging during a build up.
i thought about that, but then what does arum do after for a big fight? make the big money with the spence fight, and regardless of the outcome, if pac doesnt look completely shot, he can make the big money again vs crawford. meanwhile, bud can unify and then enter 147 vs a legend. all these fights would make big money.
Garcia would be perfect for Texas, but Porter should be his next opponent, think Porter beats him............Thurman would beat him now...............but he has an injury, so it's either Garcia or Porter next.................not sure about Matthysse, since he just moved up, but he can punch, Brook can't.....................
