Obviously the BW division is loaded and McDonnell probably isn't ready for the top 8 guys or so in the division. Can't think of many options for him. Stuart Hall? Jamoye rematch? Siderenko maybe? I'd be happy to see the Jamoye rematch myself. It was a great close fight and Jamoye did enough to warrant another go.
i'd like to see a rematch as well, but i think they'll give hall a shot. in the ringside build up to the fight, he said he wanted to win back the british title so he could get pictures of himself holding all three belts
I would like a Jamoye rematch at some point but yeah he's being talking about a Hall fight which wouldn't be all that bad.
How do you reckon he'd do up at 122? Far more depth domestically than 118. Looks to have the frame for it. I think he'd have a decent shot against Booth, Munroe, Quigg etc.
If he wants to get a shot at a World Title then going for Bouziane would be a good shout and it would be another tough fight that would get him more respect which he and his team seem to crave from the looks of his interview on Rinside. I would like to see Hall-Lyon and then the winner can take on McDonnell in the fall.
Depends on how he is making weight, if he is making it fine then why go up to 122 considering the advantages he has with his frame at the weight. But if he is really struggling then why not move up because let's face it he won't get a World Title shot at 118 any time soon and he could be involved in some major domestic fights at 122 which could be a decent money spinner for him. This is why I hate all these weight divisions, in this day and age there are not enough fighters about to keep each division stacked and you have certain fighters at certain weights struggling to find decent opponents.
He should go for whatever makes the best sense for him. He did well to pull out tonights win and deserves to call the shots for a bit.
Just gt back in from the fight and a massive well done to both men, very good fight and two top boxers. I would love to see a rematch but an Hall fight would be great as well.
Is he struggling with the weight? If he is he should maybe fight Hall then move up, go for the Euro belt at super bantam and then a strap. It's a much weaker division so he'd have a better chance. Honestly, does anyone really see him beating Montiel, Donaire, Agbeko, Moreno or Mares? Because I don't.
I was disappointed by McDonnell last night to be honest. It was a decent fight, and Jamoye was clearly a tough-ish match, but there was no evidence that he can step up to world level any time soon. All that shoving (which I was really glad he lost a point for), just showed the trouble he was having keeping Jamoye at range. He seems to be a very light puncher to me, I think Jim Watt kept making the point that he couldn't make Jamoye respect him. Don't get me wrong I'm glad he won, but now I'm doubting the progress I thought I'd seen between Napa and Bragga...
I think he should fight stuart hall next and put a beating on him, then bouziane in a world eliminator
