Diaz-Miller is a good match up. Maynard-Miller is too. 155 is the hardest division to match up and because it is so stacked it is really hard to decide who ranks where. First time that I don't think it is easy to rank the top 5 contenders.
How about Gray Maynard? I'm not in favour of this "guy coming off a loss must face other guy coming off loss" thing, it's stupid and pointless.
No its a perfectly good rule of thumb. You try to match up winners because you're trying to build challengers to the champion. And it creates the impression of forward momentum with fighters moving up the ranks with a victory. Gray Maynard vs Jim Miller is a great example of why it makes sense. Its stupid to match Miller with Gray because in terms of creating challengers for Frankie you're basically relying on Miller to win as Maynard isn't get a title shot this year after having two in 2011.
I have no interest in seeing Maynard-Miller II at this moment. The 1st fight was solid and both are top guys both the divison is 2 loaded to be having non title rematches. Either one can face Clay Guida, Lauzon, Barboza and so on.
Yeah it doesnt really matter much to me except in rare cases. With Lightweight being how it is loaded but with no clear top contender who has broke away id be fine with Miller coming off 1 win vs maybe Clay Guida coming off a loss and the winner getting a title shot. As for Gray he IMO shouldnt be far off a title shot I mean who wouldnt wanna see Maynard-Edgar IV ? They are 1-1-1 vs each other and Maynard was close to winning it in the last one AGIAN. So competitive. Id perfer he won 2 fights but lets say it was Maynard vs ill use Guida agian and he just destroyed him and basically treated him like Edgar in round 1 but finished him he could be very deserving of the next title shot IMO. I just love this divison. Cerrone vs Miller is a fight that goes agianst that win vs loss in previous fight thing that id love to see also.
Personally id like to see him fight Barboza , there is a lot of wrestler's in the LW division , and Miller is exactly the type of guy who would provide a snooze fest against fellow wrestler's , or a boring up stand fight with an opponent of equal wrestling ability Barboza would be taken right out of his comfort zone here and thats what he needs next up
:huh Miller can wrestle but hes hardly a top tier wrestler or some kind of LNP guy. Miller always KOs or submitts him opponet sometimes in pretty brutal fashion. Infact Miller's wrestling has been a weakness in his losses to Maynard, Edgar and Henderson.
Weakness against " ELITE WRESTLERS " , yes , no shame in losing decisions to these men is there ??? If Miller doesnt take you to the ground he's not an overly dangerous individual is he ???
I'm not in favor of that either, but the world does match winner against winner.. I believe their is a time and place for winner v winner and loser v loser :thumbsup Gray Maynard is indeed the most sensible matchup.
I agree with the forward momentum. Its bad when a top fighter can go from undefeated to 0-2 in his last fight and then 1 fight from being cut. With the roster so deep, the 3 strikes has to become 4. I disgaree with Miller Gray. The UFC always expect its fighters to put together at least 2 or 3 good wins before getting anothe rtitle shot. Either Miller carries on his momentum or Gray puts himself back on the path to another title shot.
Good points.. Diaz, Barboza, Guida, Pettis, Lauzon and Miller all need to square off in a one day, 6 man tournament :deal
I share your enthusiasm for this division. So many great fights in store. It's not inconceivable that all these guys could keep beating each other and the belt could keep changing hands. I'm excited by the re-emergence of Nate Diaz, can't wait to see him vs some more top lightweights.
I think there is too many good Wrestlers for Nate to reach the top. He doesn't have the best TDD but he will always work from the bottom. I can see a good few lay n prayers get the decision against him. Hope I'm wrong though big nate fan
