What a bunch of genius's Nevada are WOW,

use sports drinks to help hydration. This can then stop deaths!

How about actually stop these 24 hour weigh ins and monitor boxers in camp and stop them killing themselves by self imposed de hydration in the first place ?

    just a thought

gatorade should not be allowed. it makes a fighter relies much on gatorade for rehydration to maintain stamina during fights and that would result them to train less.

Boxing matches are short compared to other sports, so by the time the tired fighter gets an energy boost, the fight is likely over.

Is the suggestion that it is more difficult to mix something into water? Panama Lewis anyone?

Absolutely NOT. Fighters of the past didnt have this advantage and neither should present fighters. This is boxing, people are punching each other in the face and body trying to knock one another out...giving proper nourishment and electrolytes to a figher during the fight is not necessary. Water is the best thirt quencher anyways. As a fighter, I would drink a half a gatorade at most or some pedialyte before a fight, and yeah you lose a lot of electrolytes during the fight, but so does your opponent. thats part of wearing each other down and seeing who is more conditioned. Plus anyone can mix gatorade with other substances without anyone catching on.

I believe that what looked like a 20 oz Gatorade was used this past weekend in the corner of either Rios or Salido. It was pretty blatant but actually sort of odd.

I'm pretty sure some jurisdictions allow for the use of Gatorade for the fighters to drink.

Vegas I believe started to allow it right before a particular fight.......I thought it was the DLH-Vargas fight, but now that some people in this thread have mentioned Mosley-Vargas, it may have been that fight.

.......in any regard there is a story to it......the Nevada commision voted to allow for the use of Gatorade right before one of these big fights, and it turned out that one of the fighters for this big fight had been training while using Gatorade to hydrate, and the other had not......

There was a big controversy as to should it be fair to allow it for this particular fight where one fighter who had been preparing and training with the aid of Gatorade and the other had not.

It may have been Jack Mosley who said right before the fight, "I'm not going to start giving Shane Gatorade between rounds when he's not accustomed to drinking it."
.......of course had Mosley (if it was him, I'm not certain) known that Gatorade could substitute for water, he would have experimented with it during training camp to see how his body took to it.

I actually dont remember of the NSAC actually allowed the use for Gatorade for that fight, but I would have had to have agreed with the fighter who did'nt have the benefit to experiment with it. You have to announce that you're allowing for the use of a substance way in advance before you actually put it in place in a particular fight.

.......anyway, a big stink was made about it back in the day, so I'd feel that yeah, its now allowed nowdays.

It is OK, but it would be better to be just water. Some places already allow it.

A guy gases for a reason. Anything allowing him to continue when he has nothing left could get him hurt.

Gatorade at 50% dilution makes a world of difference on hard training days. Just seems to take away from the sport being Man versus Man.

Thanks RM, I had read most of this thread, but often times dont click on links not designated by the thread starter.

Though I was'nt 100% certain if it was the Mosley-Vargas fight, my recollection on the specifics was pretty accurate.:hey:lol:
