They both did about the same. Each was glad just to be in the ring with Sergio and prove to their countrymen that they could land a couple of shots on him.

They both gave it the "old college try"(and then essentially quit:lol:). They knew that was all anyone expected.:yep

    Neither quit.

One had a perforated eardrum, and the other had McGirt.

Neither of them quit. Barker got his ear busted, lost his balance. And Macklin was king of ***** street. He wasn't going to recover in those 60 seconds and would have gotten hurt, badly.

I thought Barker did better, was landing shots clean consistently and could have made things interesting if he moved his hands a little more, gave him 4 rounds at the time of the stoppage.

Macklin landed a couple clean right hands but I didn't see him winning many rounds like a lot of you saw, I think I gave Macklin 2 rounds and 1 round even, 1 of those rounds being the stupid "knockdown" in a round Sergio was winning anyway.

I love how people dismiss a perforated eardrum like a cracked nail.
The fact he lasted as long as he did was amazing.I've had someone close with that injury, and they could hardly stay on their feet, far less fight off an elite boxer.

I do want to play devil's advocate for a moment and point out the Macklin's body shots were occasionally effective despite not leaving the same visible trace that Barker's jab did (just by virtue of Barker's jab landing on the face, which unlike the body is quick to show damage).

However, I still do think the jab was more effective than the body shots.

Last night although Macklin posed a few questions and put up a very good fight but i felt that Martinez was never uncomfortable or fustrated barring the knockdown. Against Barker however i felt he was consistantly getting drawn into the jab early and being made to lead before being countered. This made him fustrated and uncomfortable and was forced into a different gameplan in a fight that up until Barker gassed was very tight. Both put up tremendous efforts but i think Barker was the more successful.

Great question. Both men have good skills and big hearts. Barker is a little more technical in that he used his height better and took a more textbook approach. Macklin fought a more measured fight and was able to match Sergios skills. Barker showed superior skills imo early against Martinez, but again Martinez timing and athleticism is superb

    hey IB

my prediction was for it to be more or less level after 8 give or take a round, then sergio to go and dominate and stop him in the 11th. :good

i have not seen macklin martinez yet i feel asleep however i do feel macklin would beat barker via UD.

I haven't seen it since it happened, but I'd go with Barker. He was getting in some effective counterpunching, etc.. Macklin did well, but I always felt like if Martinez would just "step it up", he would get it done. Against Barker it wasn't so clearcut. That said, both guys gave him some serious trouble.
