Just shows you how good Chavez was then! Despite being years past his best he was masterful beating Haugen and more fun than Whitaker beating Haugen.

And the last time I looked, Chavez/Whitaker goes into the book a draw, despite Chavez being even further past his peak...

Anyone who watched Chavez/Whitaker will know the score, anyone who has not, is not a fan of boxing, or still has a bit to learn on the basics. Whitaker's style and personality is always going to make him a hard sale to the casual fan, and indeed, some hardcore fancy.

And just goes to show that Chavez aged a further 20 years between rounds 2 and 3 against Whitaker.

Last time I looked at the fight itself it was a schooling, therefore making the draw 'in the book' irrelevant.

Indeed, some people have a hard time keeping their objectivity.:good

Both Haugen and Chavez were past prime, but Chavez annhilated him. Absolutely destroyed him, as someone else said Haugen was literally the sacrifice that the massive crowd demanded.

By that time Chavez had fallen from a brilliant box puncher to a slugger, but his performance was still more impressive IMO

^ and lets not forget Chavez fought Pea at welterweight...Chavez ceiling weight was 140, his peak weight was 135...Not saying Pea wouldnt beat him at any 135, because IMO he would, but im certain it would be more competitive than their '93 encounter.

Yes, but my opinion means nothing, look at their records, it was a draw...

Just watch either Haugen-Paul or Haugen Pazienza II for the answer to your question.

Through the the intense nationalistic anger and sense of macho pride in defending the honor of his besmirched May-he-co, Chavez transported himself back at least 5 years to his prime to exact his holy revenge on the insulting gringo ogre Haugen..it was more contemptuous a dominance than was Ali's when he punished Terrell.

According to Haugen, Don King made up most of the pre-fight talk to hype the fight, outside of the remark about Chavez fighting taxi drivers. He said he trained on vodka and cocaine. Considering he wasn't worth anything after the Chavez fight, it's probably true.

I kinda think that if none of that prefight trash talk had been made..by either Haugen or King, that Greg would have fared better..he may not have survived to see the last bell, but he wouldn't have been punished so badly.

Haugen was not a good fighter anymore by the time he fought Chavez.Fun performance, but not nearly as relevant as Pea's effort against a good Haugen.

When he beat Pazienza, not too long before he fought Whitaker.
