Puerto Rico has produced by far more champions than any other country as far as ratio wise goes. It's amazing the talent that little island has and continues to pump out. Puerto Rico is the boxing hotspot.

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, not a country.

Well, now for the truth. The only reason that PR and Mexico is the hotspot ( for pro boxing not amateur ) is because Cuba has been locked up since 1959. There is no doubt that if Cuba was free, Cuba would have had actually more Pro Champions than Mexico or Puerto Rico. The fact is that Cuba is truly the HOTSPOT bor boxing and also baseball. The Cubans' have been forced to compete in the amaterus and their talent has gone to the amateurs and thats where they have dominated. The Cubans have won more than 50 Olympic Gold Medals ( more than any country ) have won more Gold medals in the World Championships ( more than any other country ), so if those Cubans that have been missing since 1959 from professional boxing would had compete here, there is no doubt that the Cubans would have had the most professional Champions as well. As a matter of fact, little by little the Cubans are starting to make the mark again in the pros with Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Lara, Johnson, and Despaige. If the Cubans continue to defect in that way, soon the Cubans will start shining again and can actually CATCH UP with Puerto Rico and Mexico even though that the Cubans have a 50+ years of being jailed difference between PR and Mexico. No disrespect for PR and Mexico as they have very good talent but Cuba has been MISSING IN ACTION since 1959!!! :thumbsup

I hate to burst your bubble but the're is plenty of doubt.

Cuba has a great reputation for amateur boxing but the main reason for that is that the Communist Government has been supporting it for such a long time. Right now things are looking up for professional Cuban boxers but they still have a long way to go before they can even compare themselves to Puerto Rico, much less Mexico!

    Puerto Ricans Population wise:

    800,000 to 1,000,000 in NYC

Roughly another 2 Million spread through out the rest of the US, but mainly on the east coast.

    4 Million on the island.

yes we have the most champs per capita in the sport of boxing.

I am Puerto Rican. But I am tired of the whole PR vs Mex bull****. Ok, its expected for Mexico to have more. their Population is around 110million people. Puerto Rico is about 4millions. So per population, Puerto Rico have more, way more. But honestly, who the **** cares?? I follow good Puerto Rican boxers, and I follow good Mexican fighters, and any other good fighter regardless of their nationality. I was to get technical about this **** I would have to say this: Puerto Ricans are as Americans as Texans or Floridians. There is only one passport, one nationality. So USA has more champions. But again, Who the **** cares???

If Cuba was free....... the first thing you could expect is half of those kids will not even be boxers. Others would get their careers destroy by promoters who don't really give a rat ass about the kids. Another group would start partying like crazy as soon as they win a few fights. Like it happens in any other nation. Cuba dominated the amateur boxing only by not allowing their boxer to turn professionals. And that has nothing to do with USA. Its easy to win when you are a "pro" and the kids from the other countries are not.

When there is nothing going on but boxing of course there has to be alot of of champions for the amount of people. There is alot of stuff going on in Mexico besides boxing, if there was nothing but boxing you could only guess how many more champions there would be.
