I was thinking of this fight and how Ortiz took most of Bertos shots with little trouble. Berto is no power puncher but he is also no slouch in the punching department. PBF i see the same way. People may call him feather fisted all they want but i feel he hits much harder than given credit for.

To me it would seem that Berto holds a slight punching advantage over PBF. Very slight almost identical.

The reason i bring this up is that if Berto does manage to have more power than PBF what is going to happen when Ortiz feels it??

When a guy feels he cant be hurt he willbe even more confident and usually more effective.

Floyd has accuracy and timing over Berto.

But one punch power in that right hand I'd take Berto over Floyd.

Kostya Tszyu punched harder than Floyd does. Despite this, he wasn't able to really hurt Ricky while Floyd separated him from his senses. Cotto hits harder than Mayweather, yet Mosley was more leary of coming in on Floyd than he was against Cotto. It's about more than just punching power.

He is incredibly hard to hit due to his foot work.

One thing Ortiz did to keep Berto where he could hit him which was smart/dirty was use his head. He would plant it against Bertos chest and he knew exactly where to punch at all times. I hate this tactic as it usually makes for boring fights but in this one it actually made the fight pretty entertaining so i cant complain.

Would this tactic work on PBF?? His legs are showing signs of slowing down so he is standing his ground more ala Mosley so if he decides to stand his ground instead of his lateral movement i think Ortiz can employ this tactic and use his superior strength and weight to grind PBF down.

I just remember the look Ortiz had in his face on fight night like he would not be denied so if he comes with the same mind set this could turn out to be a hell of a fight. Ortiz will not gas like Mosley did and he definitely has the power to match Mosley. Hell even the speed too.

Of course its not just about power and i do disagree with Cotto hitting harder than PBF. I would say they are either even or PBF has a slight edge. His power is very underrated by alot of people it seems.

the reason for floyd knocking ricky out is obvious... he was frustrated at not being able to fight, and went more gun ho than he usually does. cortez is the reason.

Berto hits harder. He just can't land precisely and gets more frustrated, so over the long run floyd does WAY more damage, but I don't think Floyd would have been able to knock out Berto's second to last opponent with one punch like that, he needs some accumulation to have an effect.

Cotto hits WAY harder than floyd, but once again, he is also much lazier, less accurate, less innovative with his counters. Floyd is offensively dangerous but it isn't because of his one shot power.

I remember cotto stopping guys from hitting them on the shoulder, breaking orbital bones, etc. Floyd has never done that kind of structural damage because his fists aren't Ponce De Leon wrecking balls, its more like getting beat to death with a golf club than a pole ax, but both will kill you.

I think Berto wins in the Power department. He sits down on punches a lot more.

But these days we rarely see Floyd load up on his punches. He only loads up to get his opponent to respect him, and once he has that respect\fear he just eases off.

I expect to see and older version of Floyd sept 17th, meaning more power shots. If he drops Ortiz with one punch i will be very impressed. Hes a lot more solid these days.

When trying to guess how Ortiz will react to Floyd’s shots, you need to take into consideration more than just punching power. There will be so many factors at play.

Ortiz’ task of dealing Berto’s punches was made easier because Berto was also being got to, and he was crumbling at a far quicker rate. He just didn’t like being hit. If you’re in Ortiz’ shoes, that does a hell of a lot for your confidence. You’re more willing to take shots to give some in return.

But against Floyd, will he be afforded the same luxury? He [Floyd] won’t bang as hard, but the frequency, accuracy, and sharpness that he’ll be hitting him with, will be far superior than that of Berto’s. And during all of this, he’ll also present Victor with less opportunities to land, let alone hurt him.

With all of these being at play, Ortiz will realize he’s in a fight that he's in no control of what so ever. It’s here where we’ll see him react more negatively to Floyd’s shots, than Berto’s.
