Mights sound like an off the wall question but there has been worse threads here so WTF . WHo do you guys thing hits harder? Montiel isnt exactly a one puch bomber but his shot is dangerous. I think Malinaggii has respectable power against certian opponents but for the most part is considered a pillow puncher against the best in his division. DO you think he hits harder than a good puncher at Bantam?

I clicked on Montiel by accident :patsch

Malignaggi hurt Diaz. Floored N'dou and clipped Cotto and just buzzed him for a second

Im thinking Montiels best punch is harder than Malinaggis, but as far as overall work rate Malinaggi being the bigger man might wear on a fighter more.

It's clearly Montiel. Take a good hitter and size him against a light one only 20lbs higher, and he'll always have the harder stuff.

Now, if you were talking about Montiel or Zuri Lawrence obviously that would be different.

As to where the cut-off point is...I don't know, maybe thirty to thirty-five pounds? Yeah, I'd say Yuri Foreman probably hits harder than Montiel.

There's a difference between Foreman and Malignaggi.

Foreman doesn't have a knockout style - he doesn't sit down on most of his punches like he's going for the finish.

Malignaggi doesn't have knockout power - he couldn't if he tried.

One's a featherfist and the other's just a decision fighter.

Gamboa's also not exorbitantly powerful for his weight range, that you could go matching him up with much larger men, whereas Montiel is.

Really:huh I think Gamboa is a very strong featherweight one of the strongest in a while. Watch as he easily moves up succesfully. If his chin holds up he will be a LW champ in the next few years.

He's certainly not a weak featherweight, but power isn't his chief attribute, IMO - it's handspeed. He isn't knocking everybody out with single shots like Montiel; he's accumulating rapid damage on them with his fast hands.

I wish they'd take the top ten of every division, measure and take the average of ten power punches from each and show what the average top fighter hits at for every division so we can see the actual data.

Its a combo of his speed and his strength, believe me he is capable of hurting any featherweight with one shot, i just see the way he blazes thru opponents, and im not just talking about his punch im also talking about his physical strength. I surprised you dont recognize his physical strenght, id bet hes even stronger than Juanama.

Montiels power has improved with age, he didnt have that one punch power early on, most of his previous kos where from accumalation. Ive watched him since he was a prospect and he was more boxer first puncher second when he was coming up.

 I know ive always wondered why they dont measure fighter PSI punch more often that would be very intresting and tell us alot, although i know PSI doesnt quite measure the sharpness of a punch, but it would still be fun. I know the US olympic team has one back in "00 they said Lacys punch was measured harder than Hw teamate Calvin Brock, and PFP Brian Vilorias was the hardest on the team. We are usually just left to the few that have tried it and rumors.
