Ali's not top 3 on many ATG list. usually it's SRL, Langford, Greb, Armstrong, in various different orderings.
So tell me where I'm wroing. Never said Duran walked on water, just that he was technically a better fighter than Ali. Are you disputing this? (for example name more than one fight where Ali won by landing a body punch) As for my knowledge of boxing I'm old enough to have watched both of them when they were actually fighting. How many Ali fights have you actually watched? Nothing wrong with Ali cause where both talking about fighters in the top 10 ATG list so they are both rarified elite talents.
Sorry, didn't know this was a causal fan list. I was under the impression it was a list compiled by boxing fans who watched both of their careers, and assessed them accordingly. And if you want to talk about just their worst fights, didn't Ali lose to a guy with 7 professional fights named Leon Spinks or was that a dream?
Face it Ali was a special fighter who definitely absorbed more punishment than any fighter I've ever watched. I've seen the Foreman fight numerous times and I don't think many people realize the punishment he took to win that fight. It's still a mystery to me how Foreman didn't crack a couple of Ali's ribs. Not sure about the Liston fights, I think at least one of them could have been fixed (anyone else go down by his patented phantom punch? ) And of course he fought his heart out against Frazier in their trilogy and displayed all the traits of a great, great fighter. Basically it's a close call either way. But no way is it obviously that one is ranked much higher than the other. Posters who say that just don't know what they are talking about. Rumsfeld's list is a reflection of this, and their respective popularities shouldn't factor into this at all as I assume it's about their accomplishments in the ring.
Good than I assume you're going to be answering the question. Teacher. Whose back yard was Manila's when Ali and Frazier fought? All fights will occasionally fight in someone else's country if that's where the money is, but Ali certainly had the drawing power to determine where he wanted to fight and who if it came right down to it. Cause he really didn't need to possess belts to attract spectators. He had far more negotiating power than Duran ever dreamed of having.
Google Muhammad Ali BoxRec. See where Ali fought Blin, Cooper, Chuvalo and others. This will be the last time that I educate you.
Poor Ali had to go to Toronto and London for a couple of a fights, that's just horrific. So by that logic since Duran was Panamanian and fought mostly in the US (doesn't even speak English btw) then everyone of his US fights were fought in someone else's back year. Impeccable logic. Guess I've just been school by the great BlizzyBlizz.
