Ali > Duran period end of discussion.:deal Like I said earlier Duran couldn't carry Ali's spitbucket.
Why don't you just say you're not a boxing fan since you clearly aren't. Both of these fighters are extremely elite, so to insult one of them disrespects the whole sport.
I'm a boxing fan a huge one and Ali is simply a greater boxer than Duran. Duran is a sure fire ATG but he's simply not Ali who's arguably one of the most famous people on the planet and the most famous boxer of all time. Sick resume and best HW in boxing history trumps anything Duran has accomplished.
Wow this is a hard choice and I can see why fans could say either one. Personally I have flip flopped over these guys for years . . . its kinda like picking your favourite child, impossible.
slightly leaning towards ali.i think ali is top 5-10 all time and duran top 15-20. and sorry if i don't agree with everybody else.
Resume wise you have a valid point, but as to fame, I don't think that enters into the equation at all, at least it shouldn't. The most boxer of all time may very well have been Louis in the second world war or Dempsey who use to draw 100,000 spectators and made far more than other athletes at the time including Babe Ruth, but obviously Ali's in the mix and the fact I use to hum a song about him when I was a child reminds me of how incredibly famous he was and is.
Bolt, a lot of this "jumped a weight class" stuff is ridiculous. Its different when you're naturally the smaller man and you jump a weight class. We're talking about a guy who would sometimes balloon to 180+ and then just come back down in weight. Thats different then a legit 130 or 135 moving up to 147 to fight. Totally different. If anyone were to put Duran above Ali. P4P all time. then that would mean Ali is also in back of SRL, Hearns, and Hagler. Because Duran doesnt even rate above them.
Whether you realize it or not your comments are borderline ignorant. (ignorant means lacking knowledge just in case you weren't ware of it) Honestly the forum here in classic rates Duran slightly about Ali, and well above the other 3. International Research on boxing rates Duran well above the other fab 4, http://www.ibroresearch.com/?p=463 with Leonard coming in at 12th. Bert Cooper puts Duran at 8th all time The associated press names Duran the greatest lightweight ever The Ring Magazine rates him 5th best in the last 80 years and you come up with complete bs. I have nothing against anyone rating Ali over Duran, it's a close call and you could find enough evidence to support either fighter, but Duran certainly isn't the worst of the fab 4 that's for damn sure. If you want to go that path, that he's the worst of the fab 4 support your argument or STFU. :smoke
