Who ranks higher all time Lennox Lewis or Joe Calzaghe?

Sorry but that's bull****. Calzaghe NEVER dominated 168 like Lewis dominated heavyweight, he was a fringe champion until he fought Lacy and that was after 8-9 years of holding the meaningless WBO strap. Lewis took on all comers, sure he lost twice but every fight was dangerous for him, unlike the Welsh coward with the padded record.

I rate Hatton higher than Calslappy personally, purely because he had the guts to take on the man when it mattered. Calslappy has never done that in his entire pathetic career.

 

This is not even close. Lewis by a mile is rated higher all time.

1. So what? Do you want to bring each guy's level of opposition into play? I think not.

2. The question here is "all time higher ranking". As I already said, one punch in the Heavyweight business can do the trick far more often than in SuperMiddle, plus Calzaghe can't claim he faced as dangerous punchers as Lewis has. And Lennox didn't beat the count on only one of those occasions. That's a pretty weak argument, to prove Calzaghe ranks higher all time than Lewis.

3. Totally agreed. What's your point, though? Stamina? Lewis also had excellent stamina.

lennox by a landslide. he avenged the only 2 fighters who were able to beat him plus he did it in devastating fashion and in their primes. joe's very good, but the only great fighters he's ever beaten were all past their primes if not shot. he needs to fight dawson if he wants to silence american critics

 

Lennox probably the choice in this one, but I believe Calzaghe could finish his career higher if he keeps fighting and winning.

 

Please don't even mention the Tyson win. Tyson was past his best by 1990. Similar to Roy Jones on Calzaghe's resume. Nice name on Lennox's record to the end of his career, but definitely not the man Tyson once was.

 

Yes, if Joe hangs on for two or three more fights against dangerous opponents and wins convincingly, he definitely has a case. I don't know about "higher", but one could desribe him as equally good, no doubt.

I'd say that win was similar to Calzaghe's win over Jones. Good name, faded opponent.

1. For sure if Calzaghe keeps on winning (and not against the likes of a washed up Jones) he can surpass Lennox.

3. Ya, that's what I was saying in my post. Lennox's win over Tyson is like Calzaghe over Jones. Worth very little.

I have to go with Calz here. Steve Bunce said it right for me in the clip where he and Setanta's team are talking with Lou DiBella that someone posted here the other night about Joe vs Roy in their primes. Lennox was beaten by a guy (McCall) that was like 6 weeks out of rehab and he has the two KO losses. And, he fought his main competition (Holyfield and Tyson) well past their best. He never got to fight Bowe, though that wasn't his fault. He also ducked Corrie Sanders. Finally, I always felt Ray Mercer beat Lewis in Madison Square Garden. However, on the ledger, Lennox has a win over everyone he ever fought. That deserves a ton of credit.

I'm not a big Lennox fan but I respect what he accomplished. But Joe's never lost and always took his fights seriously during the training, at least more seriously than did Lennox.

With Joe, there's no losses and no controversies. Yes, he did dodge Glen Johnson, apparently. But he won the Hopkins fight clearly (took 7 of the final 8 rounds on 2 judges' cards) and the Reid judge who scored for Robert seemed almost certainly an English homer.

It's hard to argue with a guy who has the "0," particularly one who is winding things up as Joe is. I like Bunce, and I'll give him the nod on this score (although his saying Joe should fight Woods in Wales is a joke).
