That is because Marciano took years off of his life in their meetings; Charles had a return to form right before meeting Marciano the first time around and his passion was revitalized. He was stated to look like himself at his best

No evidence from film nor statements that Walcott was past his best

What'd you think of this statement:

"Prior to the Marciano fight, Archie Moore was the best P4P fighter in the world" with Robinson, Charles, Burley and Pep all on their way down or out, I think it's probably true.

I'd agree to it with the exception that Marciano himself was the p4p best fighter in the world. My p4p list right before Moore-Marciano would have them at 2 and 1 respectively

    It's Marciano for me.
He ruled over a far weaker era, but he ruled nonetheless.
Holyfield was clearly the better boxer and he'd easily win if they met. But I judge boxers based on what they did in their own era and Marciano did more in his.

He'd had close to 180 fights though and Patterson dealt with Moore much more impressively just a year later.

Charles was 2-2 coming into the 1st Marciano fight and went 10-13 after the 2nd Marciano fight so I'm not sure what you're on about TBH he was certainly not at his "best".

Still a good fighter yes but certainly not prime no.

Walcott was also past his best but still a good fighter both things can be true.
