Foreman was awfully impressive in the way he took out Frazier. His power was only a part of it. It's one thing to Knock a guy like Frazier down. The most impressive part I think was Foreman's confidence and fearlessness in stepping forward and going for the finish.
Joe Frazier got up from the 1st KD hurt but fighting back hard. He was firing some missiles at George. Most guys in Foreman's shoes there may have realized they should take their time because Joe was still dangerous. George was impervious to that leather flying by his head and even connecting once or twice. Joe was still kinda dangerous for about 3 or those
He got him hurt, kept him hurt, IDK how many punches it took Foreman to get the stoppage. It took guts for Foreman to stand in there because alot if big punchers would have retreated.
A casual look makes it appear easy but that was an uncommon force in the ring George Foreman. A sad way for Frazier to lose his title being one sided, humiliating. Though he didn't lose any honor though. His courage. I don't think anyone would put a 10 count on Joe. He proved that in Jamacia. He was crazy too.

i know one thats not debatable , Frazier took a better sock! Tyson's been on his back more than Madonna. and he never met a "ten count" he could beat!

To my knowledge Frazier was knocked down a total of 10 times against Foreman, twice against Bonavena. That's 12.

Tyson was knocked down a once by Douglas, once by Holyfield, and twice by Lewis though one knockdown was a standing 8, and once by Danny Williams. That's 5.

Complete horse****. Tyson had a far better chin.

I mean, outside of Foreman fights we have no reason to doubt Frazier chin. Tyson never faced someone as powerful and agressive as 1973 Foreman. He did face some fighters who hit comparably hard (Lewis for example), but they weren't as agressive or as skilled (in case of some very limited bangers) as Foreman.

Joe was knocked down x 2 Bonavena and x 8 Foreman, 10 in total. Put another way, two different opponents were able to put Joe down at least once. Four different opponents were able to put Tyson down at least once.

Interestingly, years back I picked up an old boxing mag. from the late 60s or barely 1970.

It contained an article comparing Frazier to Marciano. It suggested that the difference between the two, or Joe’s so called “fatal flaw”, was perhaps his chin. It called in fights in which Joe had been dropped or clearly shaken, like Bonavena, Ramos and maybe Foster etc. (not sure if the mag. was published pre or post the Foster fight).

i personally think Joe had an excellent to great chin but it’s interesting that it was being brought into question as at that time. Perhaps the accent of the article was more about looking for an edge to rate Marciano over Joe. Unfortunately I can’t recall it verbatim.

Frazier fought 37 total fights and Tyson fought 58 total fights. I'm certain that if Frazier fought an additional 21 times, he would have likely suffered more knockdowns, win or lose.

So certain that you gave Joe 2 more KDs than he actually suffered. Also, maybe Joe should’ve stayed down first time each time v Foreman, taking his ACTUAL tally down by another 6 KDs (leaving him net figs. of 4 KDs (2 opponents, 2 wins, 2 losses) v Tyson’s 5 KDs or 4 KDs (4 opponents, 4 losses).

Joe rematched both the guys that decked him and only Foreman was able to turn the trick again (go figure). Mike only rematched one of the 4 and DQ’d himself when looking down the barrel of another defeat which could’ve easily included another KD or even KO.

Damn that heart of Frazier’s. Not good for superficially read and improperly interpreted stats.

Do you understand the conjunction "or"? I mentioned Lewis in case of not being as agressive.

Lewis faced on average better and more dangerous opposition, so it's only logical he could not always be that aggressive.
