The issue is that posters here seem to think Tyson should be moved down the rankings because of what he supposedly should’ve done. He already eclipsed guys like Liston before prison. He then came back from sitting out years to win multiple titles, putting him in the company of Ali and Foreman. It isn’t a negative that he was an early bloomer.

Yes. A temple shot or similar grazing punch. I could try to discredit Liston for the Patterson wins but that’s not how I roll.

    Youngest Heavyweight Champion

What has the can crusher every achieved in his whole career other than blasting out a light heavyweight and getting embarassed by a green Muhammad Ali ?

And Seldons phony dive when he fought Tyson wasn't legitimate. It was even worse than the Liston dive (at least he got hit by something lol).

Neither of the men be beat in his second half were "the man". They were paper trinket holders. Seldon dove like be was ducking a frisbee and he had beaten Bruno before. There were half a dozen active men in the division better than either of them lol.

Golota was a NC. Tyson didn't technically defeat him. And to make matters worse, Golota quit too. Literally left the ring as trash was being thrown. The same Golota who had previously been nearly decapitated by Lewis in 1 round and had been stopped by Grant the year before. That fight does absolutely nothing for Tyson and it doesn't even count as a win for the record books.

You're consistent in your bias, I'll give you that. But it's so blatant it's comedy in a laughing at you sort of way.

Lol at a weed NC before VADA was even around. Pathetic argument from a man of questionable character.

That's how I see it. If someone's getting rough and dirty, retaliate and hopefully they get the message.

The first bite, although incredibly disgusting and unhygienic, was warranted given the head butts and rough stuff. However, a second bite is very revealing of Tyson's true intentions. He knew there was no way any commission or ref would allow him to continue after such a barbaric display. He wanted out.

You're supposed to be Mr. Technical sticking to the facts and setting aside emotion.

Tyson did not defeat Golota. To say anything otherwise is to apply your own agenda.

Even if for the sake of argument it counts, the win does nothing for Tyson's career. Golota made zero effort and quit in the worst quit job in the history of sports. As I mentioned, he had been blasted out by Lewis and stopped by Grant. I don't even think he was ranked. **** Golota.

I see your point,as for me I said either has a case.Liston's status really rests on his pre title years and H2H.

I don't give enough of a damn about Golota to make a serious thread about him.

All I know is that Tyson didn't actually beat him and the guy was trash to begin with making zero effort. To use this performance to boost latter career Tyson above Liston is comedy.

Tyson. Listion only had 4 world title fights and he lost two of them. His other non title fight wins were solid but overall Tyson has the better resume and while I do think Liston is an extremely talented fight I think Tyson also wins head to head.

He’d have a case for best long-standing number 1 contender ever, but he also fought in a really shitty era and had physical advantages over everyone that would vanish in subsequent eras. I still think he had more h2h potential than Norton, Foreman, and probably Frazier though.

    You missed Patterson x2.

@the topic, my answer is definitely Liston. Liston was a great boxer. Tyson was a good boxer.

You see the power of those respective punches as being similar?

He fought in a better era than the one that preceded his imo.He could only beat what was around and he did that ,pretty convincingly .He'd have beaten Ingo too ,if he had been given the opportunity, imo and those contenders he wiped out would have been title defences.
