I think it is easy. Hearns fought better greats than Jones ever did, and he beat them in all out wars and iconic fights!!!!Jones does not compare. If all the Jones fans wanted Jones to be as great as Hearns maybe he should have put his all in the boxing ring like Hearns did. There is a reason why Hearns will be remembered more fondly!!!!!

Jones just about imo. Whilst hearns did fight in a great era he was arguably the worst of the fab 4. His best wins are cuevas, benitez, hill and duran. Considering the context these aren't as favourable as hopkins, toney, hill and ruiz imo.

Jones was the more dominant of the two and was a great heir apparent to sweet pea's throne.

Hill often bit off more than he could chew and not always against great fighters. Jones basically couldn't be beaten until he'd dropped from hw to lhw at age 35.

An annoying misconception is that jones is damaging his legacy at present, it's just not true. Does his 11 year rule magically diminish whenever he loses as a shot fighter? History tells us this is not the case. I'd credit tarver and johnson for beating him because both were huge underdogs and the victory rightfully catapulted them back to the top. But even these credited victories don't detract from his legacy because he was notably past prime.

Legacy wise I think hearns has an edge. He's the greatest lmw in history and his rise to 175 is one of the best in history.

I rank my fighters based on an equal split of resume, legacy and h2h skillset. Roy gets a 2/3 victory for me hence gets just edged above him.

Both lie between 25-30 on my list.

Hearns lost in his prime but also has better wins, it's a close call but I'm going for Hearns (just)

that is a crazy comment bro. Hearns best wins are Cueves,Benitaz, Hill and Duran??? yeah who in history ever beat that foursome or could????That is almost better than the wins of anyone else in the fabulous four except Leonard!!!!! Duran is the worst of the fab 4 head to head!!! And had Marvelou Marvin not beat Hearns he would be number 2!! The only thing which makes Marvin over Hearns is the win over him but Hearns was better with better wins!!!!!Hearns gets the edge over Roy Jones easily. Resume, heart and era. The man had everything except a chin which rarely failed him!!!! I always thought Hearns was underrated because of his loses to Sugar and Marvelous. His resume is impressive!!!!

Ruiz is a joke!!!! Tua knocks him cold in seconds and he gave him no rematch!!!! Hearns beating Hill is 10 times better than Jones beating Ruiz!!!Anyone who knows boxing knows it.

Hearns is just greater with a huge heart. My friends and saw Hearns fight in the 1980s and he would go for broke in the first few rounds just to get the guy out and leave himself open when he didn't have to. I went to see his fight with Kinchen in 1988 in Vegas. The man had just been stopped by Barkley and he is doing a bombs away on Kinchen. We were like what the hell!!! We loved it!!! A guy with that much spirit! And he would get hit a few times and it didn't matter to him. He just had this big heart and guts even when he knew he probably couldn't take a big punch. Jones lacked that and I think that is what separates them. That and the fact that Hearns will always be linked to Leonard,Duran and Hagler and also Benitez and Cuevez. Jones really never had guys he was linked to. Jones lacked heart which diminishes him!!

Larry said that about Rocky Marciano. I added in the RJJ and Hearns thing. Hearns was greater. More iconic, more guts and better resume. Roy was impressive with his speed, but Hearns gave us what was in his heart and we have some great fight footage from him. Not much from Roy!!
