In the classic forum, you'll also find out that Tunney was a better boxer than Muhammad Ali and Juan Manuel Marquez. It's full of people trying desperately to seem smarter than they are, and making easy questions difficult, like the question of who is better and more significant historically between Spinks and Tyson.

Have you ever watch some of the LH fights from that era? They were awesome fights . Yet at the time the division wasn't all that popular.

spinks' light heavy resume was bad ass as it was, he unified all the belts one by one and then to put icing on the cake jumped up to heavyweight and beat the lineal champ, not some john ruiz like jones did but the lineal champ, after that he tried his luck with the number 1 heavyweight in the world, he failed but losing to a prime mike tyson is not a big deal, had he retired after beating holmes he would have left a lot of people talking!

Tyson transended the sport for a reason...His mark on boxing far exceeds Spinks, another ATG...

:goodPerfect contri:good.Spinks had a terrific lightheavyweight resume, too. He's definitely on the shortlist for top 5 ATG lightheavy. He beautifully outboxed a terrific fighter in Qawi and was never off his feet until his KO by Tyson.I'm still trying to figure out who Tyson beat that would even make this debatable.

He transcended the sport because of his ferociousness and unpredictability.Just who did he beat that indicates he should be ranked above Spinks? We all know he destroyed Spinks when they fought, but Spinks was a natural lightheavy.

Youngest HW Champ all-time, unified titles for first time since Ali, something no one has accomplished since...

Beat all three champs, the lineal champ in spinks, and the champ who would have exceeded Marciano's 49-0 record had it not been for two dubious decisions vs Spinks...KO'd Spinks, who had never been off his feet and was undefeated, in 91 seconds...Only man to KO Holmes...

And he transended the sport because did what no else could do before or since....

    Spinks has the better resume...

That being said, how many of the fighters Tyson destroyed could have gone on to become great champions if Tyson hadn't dismantled them?

I feel like Tyson may have been too dominant for his own good.

Though anyone who gets a win over a prime Qawi deserves your respect and consideration...

Not many as Evander Holyfield had entered the heavyweight division shortly after Tyson lost, then came Bowe and Lewis.

Hard to rate them. Spinks was overall the better fighter I think, but Tyson was more iconic and dominating. The prime Mike Tyson of 1986-1989 could beat anyone p4p probably.

No offense, but you didn't answer my question.Again, just who did Tyson beat that would indicate he's p4p better than Spinks? We all know Larry Holmes was waaay past it because he had already been beaten by Spinks twice.Who did Tyson beat that would indicate that he's better than Spinks in ATG status. And for shits and giggles, where do you rate Mike in the ATG ratings of heavyweights?
