If we are talking about skills, then I think both are extremely skilled and talented, but probably Mayweather a bit more: more effectiveness, better defense, doesn't have a crappy chin.

If we are talking about legacy, these are the facts:

    Floyd Mayweather:
    a) Won belts in five divisions (three lineal).
    b) Best wins: G. Hernandez, Diego Corrales, JL Castillo, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De la Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez

    Thomas Hearns:
    a) Won belts in five divisions (one lineal).
    b) Best wins: Pipino Cuevas, Wilfredo Benitez, Roberto Duran, Virgil Hill

Mayweather beat Hernandez and DLH when they were past their prime. Same happens with Hearns' victories over Duran and Benitez.

Mayweather is undefeated. Hearns lost several times.

Hearns he's a top 25 or 30 ATG. PBF could pass him if he takes on a few more big names though.

I rank Hearns in my Top25, but I really don't see much difference between him and Mayweather. Therefore, I can't belief some people won't rank Mayweather in the Top100.

Benitez was at his best for the Hearns fight. Hardly comparable with the versions of De La Hoya and Hernandez that Mayeather beat.

How can you even mention Juan Manuel Marquez as one of his best wins? It's a completely worthless win.

Head to head there would be a very good chance of Tommy leaving PBF with permanent brain damage.

Tommy looked for the biggest challenges. Little floyd looks for the easiest pay day.

True that Hearns lost and Floyd hasn't. But Tommy took more chances, fought better fighters, and was very much more fun to watch.
Floyd won't even acknowledge Paul Williams' existance. Imagine how much more horrifying it would be for Floyd to fight Hearns.

Hard one. I'd say Mayweather is more talented than Hearns but Hearns fought the better fighters. If Mayweather beats Pac then he'd probably take it.

Mayweather is the better boxer. Hearns fought the better competition and, in my mind, has accomplished much more.

For those of you who use this argument, the losses on Hearns' resume are nothing to be ashamed of - Sugar Ray Leonard, one of the most complete fighters 'ever', and a man whom Thomas Hearns arguably beat in their second fight, (Sugar Ray will agree with me), The Marvelous One himself, Marvin Hagler, one of the toughest, most vicious middleweights of the past 50 years, when the two went toe-to-toe, life-and-death in one of the greatest fights of all time, and two losses to Iran Barkley at a weight far above his best, but where he was still racking up victories nonetheless. I don't even count the loss the 40-something year old Hearns suffered to Uriah Grant.

I don't really see how one can compare the two. Floyd has good wins, but they don't stand up to Hearns'. Perhaps if Floyd beats Pacquiao, then Mosley and/or Williams he'll pass Hearns.

And it kinda pisses me off when people say what a terrible chin Hearns supposedly had. By my count, the man was down a mere 5 times in 67 fights. He got stopped by Marvin Hagler. Who didn't? He was stopped on his feet by Leonard. Barkley was simply a much larger man, even though not a famed puncher. I don't mean larger heightwise, I mean his frame was much larger.

Man, imagine Hearns legacy had he just hung on two more rounds. I know that sounds crazy, but nonetheless.

Thomas Hearns' corpse would TKO Mayweather WTF are you talking about. Mayweather doesn't even fight the best fighters in his division how can you compare him to one of the best of all time? Holy **** he's a WW that doesn't fight other WW and you're comparing him to an ATG?

You must be a UFC fan, you don't know anything about boxing.
