Reading an article in the recent issue of boxing news, the writer (Gavin Evans) states that he believes that Hatton rates above Benn in the best British fighters of all time list.

Do you agree, and if not, what could Hatton do to overtake Benn if he does carry on with his career?

I love Ben but I think Hatton has done a little more in terms of taking on better competition and achieving more on the world stage.

    Unfortunately Hatton achieved slightly more.

Very difficult one that. Prob Hatton, just.
But the thought of Benn in the comatosed state Hatton was put in by Pac is just inconceivable and just.... horrible....get away nasty thoughts.

Interesting thread. I've plumped for Hatton. He was boss of one division for 4 years and has an impressive resume while only losing to two of the greats of his generation. That said, Benn didn't get the same opportunities that Hatton has had so it's difficult to judge.

I'd say Nigel Benn.... more exciting, more ferocious and one of my personal favourites.

It is difficult to judge. I suppose the Benn-Jones Jr. would of been the equaivalent to Hatton-Mayweather.... but benn never got to fight Jones or even James Toney or Hopkins either. People talk about the Hayday of British boxing in the 90's but at least now our best fighters fought there best fighters.

I find it almost impossible to split them, would probably opt for Hatton just - but he either has to retire now or remain undefeated until he retires.

I'd say the win over Tszyu gets Ricky over the line.

Benn went on too long, seeing him in the 2nd Collins fight was sad. I felt for Collins as well actually.

    Benn easily.

Was unlucky against Eubank in the rematch and should have got that probably, McClellan is just as good as an old Tszyu if not an even more ferocious adversary. He beat his fair share of solid opponents just like Hatton did but was a better fighter.

    Benn's resume....

I will pick out what I'd say are his ten best wins - you can include Eubank II in that BTW - because he did win.....

Then I will do the Hatton wins - and see if he change my mind.

I generally favour contemporary fighters rather than older ones..... will report back shortly :good

    TEN best wins?

You'll be scraping the barrell for both.
