Who ranks higher on the all-time great list, Pacquiao or Holyfield?

I was disputing this comment, which wasnt true. Holyfield often times had to slug and fight a lot harder against more limited opposition to overcome their physical strength and size advantages. An old slow Foreman would be the perfect example.

 

Good point, I believe Holyfield was 147 pounds as a senior in HS.

The thing is, even when Pac was a legit FW... moving all the way to WW is still impressive in and of it self. Even if we break from that 16 year old 106 pound mark. Well it's hard to fend of bigger men, Valuev and Foreman were very beatable to out-box at these times. Valuev especially, you shouldn't have mentioned him. But I get your point, and it is a good one. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

 

Making any kind of application of logic is generally a bad idea in my experience.

 

Amazingly Holyfield maintains a 32 inch waist to this day. Amazing he could take bodypunches from big heavies.

Pac is in a class all to himself...head and shoulders over even a great like Holyfield.

 

You do know that size isn´t that much of an advantage at certain points? That you tire faster, your coordination turns to sh*t and so on. That´s why there are so few very good big hws.

Hw is one of the divisions with the thinnest talent pool history wise.
Fw to Ww are the divisions with the deepest talent pool historically.


IMO there is not much to argue. Pac´s to rank higher. Holyfield is great, Pac´s greater.

Not even starting about Evan Fields.

The discussions in this thread are funny. Yeah, weight ... f*ck it. Look how they did when it counted. Holyfield lost half of those fights. Pac won them.

 

Pacquiao. I feel Manny in time will be ranked in the same class as Robinson, Armstrong and Greb. I understand people reluctance to place current fighters so highly, but give it 5 years and it will be universal.
