Outside of the champions if you put the "elite heavyweights" of hollyfeilds era (shot thomas, shot dokes, shot tillis, alex stewart, bert cooper, bobby cyz, moorer, pierre coetzer, seamus mcdonugh, mercer, bean, ruiz) up against the guys just below Moore, charles and walcott you find Old louis, lastarza, layne, bivins, valdes, Baksi, oma, bob baker, elmer ray, curtis shepard, earl walls and clarence henry who were easily a match for the 1990's contenders.

Either people understand and know the records of the 1950s contenders or they dont.

Hello there Powderpuff :hi: I take it you've never actually watched the fight between Louis and Marciano - I guess you've only just read the odd report stating somewhat ridiculously that Louis did OK with his jab at times and managed to nick Marciano around the eye and you've somehow got it into your head that Louis managed to outpoint Rocky in a couple of the rounds - LET ME JUST SET YOU STRAIGHT ON THAT - LOUIS DIDN'T WIN ONE SECOND OF ANY ROUND IN THAT FIGHT OK?? - Marciano completely controlled the fight and Louis could barely string more than one punch together that landed - Marciano simply punished him continually and pressed him continuously - that was an ancient fighter in front of him that night he couldn't react quick enough to anything Marciano did and Marciano was barely out of second gear most of the time - he didn't want the fight - there was no power left in Louis' punches whatsoever and Marciano could pretty much do as he pleased which is why he was in no hurry - I challenge you to post the fight links and gives me the 'second marks' where Louis made Marciano look foolish - and I'll have a good look for them

Walcott gave Marciano an absolutely amazing fight??? Thats the point Walcott was a great fighter - he was not shaped like a sumo wrestler and swaying around all over the place like Foreman against Holy - Foreman really did look his age whereas Walcott was in amazing shape and in command too?? Who looks foolish now??

Archie Moore one of the greatest pound for pound fighters in history fighting in one of (by his own admission) his greatest fights was a 180lb weakling was he?? Quick you better go and tell somebody they need to rewrite the history books because last time I checked he was one of the greatest fighters ever period

You're touting Moorer and Ray Mercer (???:roll:) as better wins than Moore ever acheived at the weight?? OH MYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOODDDD!!!!! :patsch:nut:lol::roll::rofl:tired

Mercer the night he fought Holyfield was better than Walcott of the first fight, old Joe Louis and Archie Moore (at the point he fought Marciano).
Same goes for Tyson of the first fight.

I hate TROLLING, but it has to be done when people are acting like ******s.

    HAHAHA

    HOLYFIELD HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!

Yes I have seen the fight but I'm guessing you only watched the KO despite being a Rocky fan. SuzieQ49 a much better Marciano fan than yourself agrees with me that Louis won several rounds as do most fans who've actually seen the fight and commented on it in the classic, as did the 3 judges who gave Louis 2-3 rounds. But yes Louis didn't any miniute of the fight did he :-( Digging your hole pretty deep here, I suggest you actually watch the fight

Moore is a great fighter, hes still a small weak HW who was a 38yo and past his prime anyway you spin it

Go on then who was Moore's greatest HW? Valdez was his best win and he looks terrible on film far worse than Mercer/Moorer technically

So you're comparing the fringe contenders of Holyfield's era to the elite of the 50s and saying they were better  No **** Sherlock, outside of Moore/Walcott/Charles the 50s contenders were pretty sub par. I notice how you call Holyfield's opponents shot but 38yo Moore, 38yo Walcott, 37yo Ray, past it Bivins weren't shot were they? Many call Charles shot and his legs weren't what they were but the first Rocky fight was his 1 last great performance. Baker and Valdez were the definition of average but yes they were SHWs. Yes I understand the 50s era well enough

Tyson/Lewis/Bowe are better HWs than anyone Marciano faced.

Foreman/Holmes are SHWs by 50s standards and would easily beat Baker/Valdez

Moorer, Douglas and Mercer would beat most of the names you listed (bar the 3 elites Moore/Walcott/Charles and they may beat some of them), Marciano didn't face Ray but he seemingly was elite but probably past prime after Charles 1

Watching that fight made me pretty sure Louis would win a prime for prime match-up. No shame in losing to the second greatest HW ever, though.

I've watched the fight endless times in its entirity - I have the full fight on DVD - it is a total cake walk - Louis can barely nail Marciano with a clean punch let alone win a round - you are beyond help if you can't see that

    Moore's best wins at heavyweight??

    Erm let me see now

    Won 10 Curtis Sheppard 1947
    Won 10 Henry Hall 1948
Won KO 3 Bob Satterfield 1949
    WTKO9 Abel Cestac (223lbs against Archie's weakling 176 1/2 )
Won KO 9 Jimmy Bivins 1951
    Won KO 1 Embrell Davison
    Won 10 Clarence Henry 1952
Won KO 4 Toxie Hall 1953
    Won 10 Nino Valdes 1953
    WTKO 9 Bob Baker 1954
Won KO 3 George Parmentier 233lbs (amazing considering Moore was 180lb weakling - thought I'd throw that one in there:lol:)
    WTKO 5 Willie Bean
    Won TKO 9 James J Parker 1956
Won KO 10 Bert Whitehurst 1958
    WKO 10vs Willi Besmanoff 1960
    WKO 6 Pete Rademacher 1961
    WKO 10 Alejandro Lavorante 1962
    WKO 1 Howard King 1962

Poor old little light heavyweight hey??
