Hagler for me, though Whitaker was also great.

How? He came up huge against Hearns, but was intimidated and psychologically toyed with by Duran- a fat, past prime former lightweight who took him the distance. If he wasn't intimidated, then Duran really is that superior to him P4P from an ability standpoint if he can hang with a prime version of Hagler at his best and only weight while being 25 lbs out of his own. If neither of those two are acceptable, then it boils down to Hagler's era being relatively mediocre as far as middleweight contenders. He also lost his crown to natural welterweight that had fought only once in the previous five years (looking like crap in it) and never before at MW.

    Whitaker. Easily.

    Whitaker's best wins:
    Great fighters-
    *Chavez
    *Azumah Nelson
    Very Good:
    *Haugen
    *Paez
    *McGirt
    *Mayweather
    Good:
    *Ramirez
    *Nazario

    Hagler:
    Great:
    *Hearns
    Very Good:
    *Antuofermo
    *Briscoe
    *Minter
    Good:
    *old Duran

and tbh Roldan, Hamsho were garbage.

Never understood why hagler is ranked so high, the Middleweight division has been weak for a very long time.

Whitaker TOYED with prime, all time greats. Hagler fans use Mugabi as an example of his greatness, a fighter who was destroyed by any other good fighter he ever faced.

No Hagler-related thread would be complete without the input of nastynas. Man talks sense.

For me Whitaker is about 10 or so spots above Hagler. So I'm a bit surprised on why people are saying Hagler... To those that did.. what exactly are you basing this on? Do some of you believe his resume is better

For me Hagler was a more complete fighter better power better chin and he was a very underated boxing skill wise to me,dude always looked fluid to me.

Whittaker for me. Whittaker is just outside an all-time top 10 imo and Hagler is probably somewhere between 20-25, although i haven't done a list in a while.

Chavez, Nelson and McGirt were all Top 5 P4P fighters when Whitaker beat them. JCC was obviously #1.

I think the man said it best earlier when he mentioned that Marvin is overrated because he was underrated, but here you have two of the best examples of guys who didn't get their due respect but history has been much kinder to Marvin.
It's quite one thing to accept that Marvin would rank higher because you like him more, but if you're going to be honest and to an extent, scientific about it,then there should only be one winner.

It has to be Pernell. The guy could make genuine contenders look like they were having their first sparring session. And despite his well-deserved status as a defensive slickster, the man could plant his feet and throw a beautiful southpaw 1-2 whenever he felt it appropriate.

I'm more a fan of Marvin than Pernell, but there's a difference between personal favouritism and genuine ATG ranking. No slant whatsoever on Marvelous.

I'd put him right behind that triumvirate of Duran/Ali/SRL as it pertains to the last 50 years, Pity. He'd be #1 over the last quarter-cent, from the point SRL defeated Hagler and closed that chapter unofficially to present
