Who ranks Higher on your ATG List? Whitaker or Hagler?

Has to be Pea for me, he's one of the best fighters I've ever seen

Hagler let Duran go the distance to entice Hearns. He struggled to get big fights because he was so fearsome. I don't believe that but he said so.:good

Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker.

Too many credentials.

 

I have never made an ATG list of my own... But if there was a poll, i would have voted Whitaker, and by a clear margin IMO.

Whitaker had some of the best defensive wizardry ever displayed, much like Mayweather, but has better wins to back it.

 

As much as I love Hagler, I do feel he gets overrated sometimes on here... People saying he is clearly above Sweet Pea, is just that IMO. Or perhaps they underrate Whitaker, flip a coin i guess.

 

Lol just lol. Marvin Hagler is the greatest middleweight champion of all time. He ranks higher.

One of the most complete fighters of all time, if he had great power, he would have been the perfect fighter.

He was also THE first guy to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez, **** what the judges say. AND JCC is arguably my favorite fighter EVER.

 

I rate sweet pea very highly......but for me Hagler is higher

 

Honestly, outside of Hearns I'm not sure I'd say Hagler has any other win definitively better than Julio Cesar Vasquez, considering how quality he was at 154 and Pernell was 20 lbs out of his natural weight class. The size difference was significant. Did Hagler ever accomplish something similar against a comparable fighter talent wise? Whitaker has the 'undisputed' claim at 135 too.. He just didn't hang around and instead went after the #1 WW (and Top 4 P4P) Buddy McGirt. Beat Legendary (and P4P #1) Chavez. In addition to Nelson, Haugen, Paez, Ramirez (x2), etc.

Hagler absolutly ruled the MW division with an Iron fist, cleaning out all the top contenders and had a claim for being the best MW in the world for a few years before he got his shot , won the title and continued to beat all the top contenders for a few years.

Pea is great too but never absolutly ruled any division , JCC was a great LW around the same time and they did not fight at LW , they fought at WW where the pressusure hard hitter was at a disadvatage, defensive fighters do not lose as much as they climb divisions and or get older. Taylor was the best LWW around the same time and they did not fight either (undersatnd as they were mates) but still.

Pea and Hagler are both ATG's and I can see why most would have Pea higher but having Hagler just as high or even higher is not as far fetched as some would like you to belive.

 

A public poll on football would probably rank David Beckham above Xavi and Iniesta combined... polls reflect media attention more than actual worth. I can guarantee my parents know Hagler was a great boxer but probably think Sweetpea was a gardener.

 

I count them as wins, honestly. Way too ****ing drastic and obvious for me. Much different than say, feeling Barrera took the first over Morales.
