Who ranks higher on your ATG p4p list - Benny Leonard or Sugar Ray Leonard? Why?

Personally, I don't think so. JMHO. Ali and Duran are around 6-8 in mine. Both had far longer reigns in their divisions, beat far more quality comp (in terms of quantity), had big performances years and years after their title wins. For longevity (proving it again and again, even after their primes had long disappeared), I think they belong in the bracket above Leonard, thereby ruling SRL out of legitimate top 10 consideration for me. But as I've said, that's only my own top 10 based on my own reasoning/criteria. I don't think he can be placed in a top 10. But if you or anyone else disagrees, I have no problem with that at all.

 

Agree to disagree it is. However, I will certainly re-watch the fight again, I respect your opinion too much not to go back and see if I have missed or misconstrued some things. Peace out :good

 

That's fine. Personally, I think the only fighters that he has absolutely no chance of rating higher than are Robinson, Langford, Greb, Amrstrong, and Charles. A few others, like Ali or Duran, would be pushing it, but it's not totally unjustifiable imo.

For example, I would find no problems with this list.

2. Langford
3. Greb
4. Charles
5. Armstrong
6. Duran
7. Ali
8. B. Leonard
9. Walker
10. R. Leonard

can i chip in on the Leonard vs Hearns 1 tactics

Im in the middle of Pea and DINA

i think Hearns did box a great fight and made Ray look abit rubbish at the start and made him stalk him.

However Ray adjusted brilliantly and fought on and eventually his adaptability paid off as he showed lethal finishing and TKOd Hearns.

 

I can't understand how people "aren't impressed" with Leonard on film. He's one of the most talented and well-rounded fighters I've ever seen. What is it that people don't like about him?

Leonard B is my no1 Light weight
Leonard R is my no2 Welter.
But Ray accomplished more at different weights.
So it's Leonard for me!
