Who ranks higher P4P James Toney or Michael Spinks?

Spinks. He didn't get virtually shut out by Roy Jones Jr. In his prime.

He did get shut out by Mike Tyson in 30 seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if the heavyweight version of Toney lasted longer against Tyson

 

There's no shame in getting waxed by Peak Tyson.

 

By that logic there's no shame in getting virtually shut out by peak Jones.

 

True, though @ThatOne could have further qualified their statement by saying "a natural LHW getting destroyed by a peak Mike Tyson, shouldn't impact his p4p ranking". The difference is Toney was shut out by a similar sized guy at his peak weight, albeit RJJ was utterly brilliant.

 

For a "Big Fight" it was as one sided as De La Hoya-Camacho or Holmes-Cobb. There are posters on this board who argued Toney was so allusive he could have beat Caracas Foreman.

 

It was and there are, though I'm not sure if they (either those since banned or those still active) really believed it, I suspect it was more of a wind up.

 

There comes a point when all the skill in the world will succumb to brute stength or God given athleticism.

Spinks easily.
Toney may have actually been better skilled, but his consistency was very lacking.
Spinks was always in shape and prepared regardless of the skill level of the opponent or location of the event.
Toney's dedication was his biggest issue.
Being in shape and prepared was and is just as important as innate boxing skills.
Spinks ranks much higher than Toney on that fact alone.
Toney had ATG ability, hell with real dedication he may have been the G.O.A.T.
But there are dozens of fighters the same can be said about.

Spinks actually had some KO's at heavyweight, I believe. He was really clean and professional.

 

Spinks, and he did it without PEDs.

 

They didn't test for PEDs back then. Spinks was probably enhanced with illegal substances in training
