Roy Jones of FMJ? Mayweather finished his career 50-0 but you really can't count his last win against a UFC fighter who had no prior boxing experience. RJJ if he did not get Disqualified against griffin and retired after the first Tarver fight he would of finished his career 50-0. So who ranks higher?

    Floyd is the greater fighter.

No disasterthon tagged on at the end.

I can envision arguments for either side, but I'd favor Mayweather's greater depth of resume & resilience over RJJ's sporadic high points & all-round talent.

Yes & if Mayweather had moved up to Heavy & decisioned Wlad Klitschko that would’ve upped his standing too. If’s & but’s count for nothing.

Mayweather is the clear choice going by career. If they were both the same weight & had their prime abilities…I don’t know who would win but I’d love to see it.

I suppose it depends if you mean in a peak talent sense or an overall career sense because, for me, the answers are different.
Career wise it's Floyd. Yes he didn't always seek out the dangermen in each division at their peaks. But he obviously has enough quality in there - and retired undefeated. Jones failed to read the warning signs (Tarver 1) and didn't just have a few fights too many ... he carried on so long he actually created an alternate career, one good, one bad.
In a talent sense I would go Jones. I've never seen anyone do the things he did in a ring. Not have I ever seen the dominance repeated during his best years, Floyd included.

Yeah I got to go with Floyd here on the strength of his resume, but if they were the same size and fought, that would be really interesting to watch!

    Floyd Mayweather Jr.
But if RJJ had ended his career after defeating John Ruiz, the story would have been different.

Not a fan of either. RJ in his prime was better than Mayweather. No doubt about it IMO

    Floyd ultimately ranks higher.

However, had Roy retired at HW (after having fought Evander and Tyson as planned), or fought Byrd and took his belt then went back and fought Tarver only once and regained those belts then retired immediately, I would have Roy higher than Floyd.

So basically had Roy only had maybe 3 more fights that turned out a certain way, I'd have him ranking higher.

Both amazing, with quite different careers.

Roy was more impressive. His wins were not just a result. He left no doubt, at all, nothing.
Sure, Floyd did that too to some extent when young... but still...
    No comparison regarding longevity though...
I would compare them with Ronaldinho Gaúcho vs Messi... if you know what I mean.

Floyd should be ranked higher though, he is the greatest of my lifetime (case can be made for Pacquiao). I was more impressed with Roy though.

You are a great poster, which makes me interested in which guy impressed you more in the 90s, early 00s ?

Extracted from my all-time greatest list submitted for Rummy's compilation four years ago:

    10. Ezzard Charles
    11. Roy Jones Junior
    12. Joe Gans
    13. Sugar Ray Leonard
    14. Floyd Mayweather
    15. Manny Pacquaio

    So, Roy.

Are you the one that put Herol Graham on his list?

    No.

I did not have Herol on my list of top 15 middleweights, nor my list of top 25 all-time boxers.

I might include him somewhere on a list of top British Middleweights, but that was not what Rummy's compilation entailed.

Floyd will rate higher because we never saw him flattened . Roy's fall from grace was epic ad tragic ... However, at his best he was P4P a greater fighter.
