Hearns is one of my favourite fighters and he was a exceptional boxer, he edges bernard slightly. that draw made hopkins go up in my eyes so therefore he came closer.

I know Thomas Hearns was around in an exceptional era, but there are fights he came up very short in in his prime, Leonard I was close, Leonard II was close, Hagler wasn't, the two Barkley fights were a big let down.

Thomas accomplished more, BUT he is the same height or taller as Hopkins, so you know his success at welter is kind of just a freakish sidenote in history. Its the same way Hop was just too big and strong for Tito and Oscar, except no weight draining.

I say they are about the same, Bernard more consistent, working with less power and more solid technique, Hearns with his astounding speed and accuracy and range. Bernard has more longevity, Thomas more explosive exciting fights, but Bernard is definitely the better boxer and I would pick him to win in a head to head, prime or past prime.

Having said that Hearns beats almost every welter out there by stoppage, especially ones who are not used to getting hit.
