What you have accidentally just done, is show that Hearns has in fact beaten the better opposition.

    Please can you elaborate.

You can have Andries in Hearns top 5 wins. Or would you have someone other than Andries?

I think Hearns's long range game is overrated. Hearns had a terrific jab from range, but aside from that, I always felt it was his power that kept his man at the required distance he wanted them, not necessarily his ability to masterfully dictate range and bring other punches into play, like the uppercut, to protect that range when the opponent tried to close his range down. Hearns intimidated people more with his power imo.

Hearns used to overshoot the right hand quite a bit imo.

Technically I think Hopkins is leagues above Hearns. Hopkins can fight inside, from mid range, from long range, he can pressure fight, he counter punch. You might argue Hearns was a better fighter overall, although debatable, still fair, but Hopkins was a more well rounded technician for my money.

SNV's opposition is greater than both of these men's opposition put together.

    ATG's defeated:

    Mirovic
    Ryan
    Prime undefeated Bango
    Prime undefeated Nobles
    Donald
    Ruiz
    Bergeron (prime, undefeated)
    Prime Holyfield
    Prime undefeated Chagaev (robbery)
    Haye (robbery)
    Beck
    Barrett
    McCline

...among others. All of these men are clearly bigger than anyone faced by Hopkins and Hearns.

When Hearns got in the ring with men the same size as him such as Barkley and Hill, (although late in his career), then his long range game wasnt the same, but with them small WW/LMW, Hearns long range game was solid. But he did deal with big men such as Shuller from distance

Hopkins edges him, he also edges Hagler IMO but I'd put SRL and Duran ahead of him.

Nostaligia factor kicks in hard with these polls, current fighters always recieve the shorter straws.

That's because 'Sugar' Nikolai Valuev's resumé is unrivalled in the sport of boxing. Look, let's not get into discussing the ins-and-outs of the great man's resumé, let's talk Hearns & Hopkins.

That might make a case for what I was alleging, that his long range Boxing was so effective because he had the power to keep the opponent either in their place, or apprehensive about closing the distance on him? which would probably of been magnified against smaller men who potentially dont take a punch aswell, but not so well against big guys like Barkley, Hill who were able to take his shots better.

De Witt, Barkley seemed to have no problem putting him on the backfoot, getting inside, although I take the point he was not at his best then.

If ATG ranks were determined by a single win, James Buster Douglas would have been the GOAT or atleast top10.

I certainly wouldnt say he leagues above him technically mate.

Nard is more well rounded I agree there...but Hearns is among the best boxer-punchers of all time and there is really no department that anyone is going to be leagues above him in, apart from perhaps his chin (which isnt as bad as some make out).

At implementing his best gameplan he is among the greatest. Sure he couldnt infight so much and could be a bit uneconomical but he was damn near impossible to outbox and it took 2 truly great fighters to actually get past his jab and skills at range.

Whether or not his right hand was technically perfect..it is without doubt one of the most effective in the sports history.
