A few disputed wins over JMM and a shot EM doesn't impress me much. The guy is limited and flawed as hell who was kept away from certain fighters. He beat MAB a guy coming off a brain operation.
Pac B hop Floyd Marquez :bbb I don't expect anyone to move at this point. Maybe one day Floyd over B hop.
Barrera had the surgery done in 1997. The Pacquiao fight took place in 2003. He was 14-1-0-1 post-surgery prior to the Pacquiao loss.
I tried to give an honest answer... Had it been my favs the list would be in this order. Marquez Pacquiao Mayweather B-Hop
Hmm this is a tough one. I would say Mayweather- Gets a bad rep for cherry picking, but he does have some good wins, and amazing ability.. Pac- Its hard to see past the recent KO right now, but titles in 8 weights is amazing. B-Hop- Longevity, one of the greatest MWs in the history of boxing, and just wont go away. Marquez-Fights everyone, pretty much got the best of Pac, but doesn't own his accomplishments. Hopkins and Marquez are probably my favorite of the listed fighters.
Mayweather Hopkins Pacquiao Marquez I give a lot of importance to pure skill and H2H power on my ATG list, hence why I got Floyd comfortably ahead of the remainder. I ****ing hate Popkins' guts, but I think him and Pac are pretty much equal in terms of achievements and resume. I might be biased though, since I don't give nearly as much credit as most people do to Pac because of all the shady **** his promoter pulled off his ass to get him where he's at now (catchweights, rehydratation clauses, fighting opponents coming off losses, decisions against Marquez,...). Never thought the guy was an 8 division champ, and never will. He just ****ing isn't. As for Marquez, even though I ****ing love the guy for ending the Pacquiao Second coming of Christ level of hype, for fighting the best available and never making any excuses, and for his awesome boxing style, I just don't think he's on par with the likes of Mayweather and Hopkins when it comes down to it.
a legit reply to that is (obviously) the contention behind the result of the pac fights, and the fact that floyd pulled him up in weight and then deliberately fought on his own weight and terms at the expense of $$$ floyd - JMM prime at lightweight would be a great fight, and a display of skill and counter-punching of the highest level
I agree that that matchup would be one for the ages. However, don't get me wrong, I don't give Mayweather much credit for beating Marquez at the weight and time he fought him at, but I don't give him **** either, since he did come back from a long break and Marquez was ranked #2 pound for pound at the time. Overall a very good comeback, but a very ordinary win.
I think this is a really difficult question to answer without going over every significant factor methodically. It's also quite close between the top three. I also suspect, although this is purely my opinion, that two of those fighters may have used certain substances at certain times. Mayweather Manny Hopkins JMM
Great post. This pretty much sums up my opinion on it and I have the same ranking although Mayweather and Hopkins could possibly be swapped around.
