In my opinion, Barrera won all 3 fights against Morales Barrera beat Hamed and imo beat Marquez (I count the knockdown)
I'm thinking your talking out of your ass. I'd like to see your score card for the second fight between MAB and Em. Cause that one was a clear EM victory IMO. And I think its a bit of a strech to give him the MArquez fight.
You're right, I am talking out of my ass. I haven't watched the second fight, but I had the 1st and 3rd for Barrera, quite clearly. I think to rank Morales above Barrera is the same reason why some rank Louis above Ali, and Hearns above Leonard.
Morales... Think about what Morales would have done to Prince Naseem Hamed if he were given the opportunity to fight him ....Rapage!!!! The Hamed fight defines Barrera's career in a way. (aside from him winning the trilogy with Morales, which was a very close trilogy in 2 of the 3 fights) The same way Morales past prime beat a prime Pacman, Someone Barrera could never beat. Both guys are freaking warriors. But I give it to Morales. Morales is a 4 division champion in my book, he beat David Diaz without a doubt.
This is so difficult to call. I followed both of their careers and loved both of them so much. In the end, I think I have to give Barrera the slight edge. He did win their series 2-1, and that must be the ultimate yardstick. Yeah Junior Jones beat Barrera, but Zahir Raheem and David Diaz beat Morales, so in the course of their careers both guys lost to inferior fighters. I still believe Barrera's achievement in slaying the beast that was Hamed at featherweight has been criminally underrated because the Prince basically quit after the schooling he was given. The guy was a murderous puncher, had terrific speed, and was undefeated previously, and Barrera moved up and dominated him. Fantastic. Yet Morales win over Pacquiao is arguably even better. They are both genuine all-time greats, we were lucky to get to watch them live in our time!! JMM is not at their level yet but could be if he achieves great things at lightweight.
I also gave the first and third fights to MAB but the second wasn't even close I scored it 8-4. MAB didn't even celibrate after the fight. He knew he lost. I gather that by saying you consider rating "Morales above Barrera is the same....[as rating]....Louis above Ali, and Hearns above Leon". You mean that MAB was the more skilled but Morales accomplished more or was the more fan pleasing. I don't agree with that. Most people don't remember that throughout most of there career's it was Em that was considered to be the better boxer. It was only the master class MAB put on against Hamed, coupled with his controlled preformance against Juarez in their second fight and the way in which he really changed his style as a fighter that got people to thinking that MAB was the better boxer. Also most people just remember EM at the end of his career when his body was shot. Rewatch the firs two fights. EM was the better boxer back then. The HBO crew were talking about it as though it was pretty common knowledge that EM had better footwork, head movement, and all the rest. Most people forget that Em was the heavy betting favourite before there first fight. Em was the more skilled and owned all the intagebles. People just lose sight of the fact that he was the better boxer because he went for broke so much.
Morales did not clearly win the 2nd fight, I had him winning it but it wasnt as clear as the 1st and 3rd fight for Barrera.
How in the hell do you call the first fight a clear win for Barrera? He got badly out thrown and out landed. I gave it to him 114-113 but if anything that was by far the closest of the three fights. I will conceed the words wasn't even close were abit much. Everything is close between these two. But barrera took the first half of their second fight off and subsiquently should have paid for it on the judges cards.
I felt it was clear Barrera win, Morales needed to win the 12th round to atleast get away with the draw on my card and got dropped instead, legit or not. Morales knew he lost that fight too and even admitted.
I rank Morales higher by 1 or 2 places. H2H they're practically even as you can make a case for either one of them winning the trilogy. When it comes to resume Morales has a slight edge, his win over a prime Pacquiao and dominant performance against Junior Jones gives him the advantage (Two fighters MAB was unable to beat). I have no argument if someone wants to rank MAB slightly higher.
Nope. Leonard was greater than Hearns in terms of resume and ability, as was Muhammad Ali over Louis, and Barrera over Morales. Hearns, Louis, and Morales are "cult" favourites but in no way superior to their greatest rivals.
