Then you're calling the best boxing journalists a joke. You just can't be a member of the BWAA unless they've deemed you have ammased a body of work in terms of quality and quantity in boxing journalism. The same goes for The Ring Magazine voting panel. Their top leaders watched greats like Robinson and Armstrong in person ringside, not Youtube.

prime for prime or all time. Prime for Prime. Jones. he was absolutly amazing in his prime but relied on gifts that vanished once he was past his prime.

All time either hopkins or pacquiao. As much as I hate him, kopkins learned how to do more with less and adapted to stay on top. Never was blown out or lost in a really embarrasing fashion and managed to compete and be relevant while he was way past his prime.

Manny well he spanned so many weight classes and has beaten so many great fighters. You can hate and make all the excuses you want but the records speak for themselves and he's still going.

OK he ranks a little higher than Virgil Hill.

Being 37 years old I don't think he has a chance to solidify himself as an ATG

I think if he wins a title at 140 against one of the champs, he's a lock.

in my eyes he's already an aTG

I don't really know what Pavlik's best weight is or was, especially since people in his camp seem to change their mind about whether or not to stay at middle on a regular basis. Pavlik fought at 166 in the second Taylor fight, and while he may have taken the fight simply because of a lack of willing opponents at 160, I don't think the weight was what determined the outcome.
He was a large favorite and had stopped Joppy.
Hopkins moved up two divisions to beat arguably the man who beat the man in that division.
Right, but this all depends on how far past prime we think Morales is. Also, it doesn't matter if 130 was his prime weight if he had serious problems making it at that stage in his career. Stopping him twice isn't particularly impressive to me if he's seen as being a fair distance past prime. Pacquiao will likely be the first person ever to stop Mosley, but that will say as much about Mosley as it will about Pacquiao in my opinion.
Pacquiao wins any poll today in which he's an option. I mean he had almost 75% of the votes for fighter of the year. Obviously though that's another debate. I do think one can reasonably believe that JMM won the second fight and thus not count it among Pacquiao's most impressive wins. I completely understand your opinion, but I don't think putting Hopkins above Pacquiao is as unreasonable as it has been suggested here.

Until such times Pavlik actually proves himself outside of MW we have to assume it's his best weight and he was a full 10lbs heavier for Hopkins. But even if the fight was at MW it still doesn't rank with MAB, JMM and EM I'm sure you'd agree.

Trinidad went 3-2 at MW. Joppy struggled against Eastman the following fight. Lets also consider the wrapping of Titos hands no longer being 'tape heavy', it does throw suspicion on his previous wins and his power without the taped knuckles.

Regardless, Tarver doesn't belong anywhere near the Mexican trio.

Like you say it's about opinion, and imo the version of Morales Pac faced in their 2nd fight is still better than anyone Hopkins has faced.

True about the polls, Pac would get 70% vs God.

Hopkins is rated highly mainly based on longevity and age, rightly so. But when I look through his record it just doesn't impact the way Pacs does.

    Good points though.

I would argue for, and clearly so. Just his fights with Manny are a strong testament to that, plus the way he's handled championship level, younger competition in their absolute prime. He doesn't get much credit from me for the MAB win because MAB was far past his best, but I think JMM has proven beyond any doubt (except from haters) that he can fight anyone, past or present, from FW to LW with a chance to win. ANYONE. He's one of the best there's ever been at the weight imho.

It's a shame he didn't get the fights he needed when they were still available.

p4p and already in terms of resume, JMM pisses all over Virgil Hill. He's three or four solid levels above him, there is no RESEMBLANCE between these two men in terms of their legacy and talent. Virgil Hill can't even SEE Marquez from where he's standing. What the ****, are you ****ing HIGH?

between Floyd and Pacquiao, Pac rates higher right now, but by the end of their career, Floyd will be ahead

You do realize that any fighters resume can be picked apart like that right?

hopkins, trinidad and Hoya both 2 weights above their best weight, jones beat him the first time and he only beat jones once he was completly shot, lost twice to taylor, winky 2 weights above his best weight, pavlik, not that good to begin with and above his best weight

Floyd, corrales - weight drained and distracted also not that great to begin with, castillo arguably 1-1 against him and again not that great to begin with, hoya shot, marquez 4 weights above his best class and floyd still wouldn't stick to the contracted weight, mosley shot

Jones, toney weight drained, hopkins stll green, ruiz bumb and weakest of the heavyweight champs at the time.

Keep in mind I am not saying that I agree with all the **** I just typed, just saying these are common things that people say. Every great fighter has haters that look for ways to pick apart what they have done. at the end of the day the records speak for themselves. If what manny has done was easy then more other fighters would have done it too

You can repeat it over and over again but it doesn't make it so. Tarver was the best LHW in the world when Hopkins shut him down. How does that fight not rate? People have been underrating Hopkins for years and at this point he wouldn't get credit for unifying the heavyweight titles at 50 from this crowd. Margo and Clottey were not competitive against Pac just like limited gatekeepers were never successful against Hopkins. Margo and Clottey, under the circumstances do nothing for pac's legacy or legitimacy.
