Who rates higher as an all time heavyweight: Evander Holyfield or Mike Tyson?

Holy in my opinion. Tyson couldn't overcome adversity. Holy could

 

Mike had a better run, but overrall it is Holyfield, but they are close

 

Tyson went 50-6. He was 38-0 at one point. He bear Thomas, Berbick, Tucker, Ruddock x 2, Spinks, Bruno x 2, Smith, old Holmes, Biggs, Tubbs, Tillis and Williams, mostly in one sided fights. He lost 3 times during his prime years, to Douglas and Holyfield x 2, the latter when he was past peak.

Holyfield went 26-10-2 at HW. He was 18-3 prior to the Lewis fights. He beat Tyson x 2, Thomas, Mercer, Dokes, Bowe (1-2), old Foreman, old Holmes, Moorer (1-1), Rahman, Tillis, Douglas and Cooper. He also lost 3 during his prime years, to Bowe (1-2) and Moorer (1-1).

Whilst Holyfield is clearly the greater fighter p4p when you factor in his CW career, I think he tends to get overrated at HW. That 26-10-2 includes a gift draw. He went 1-2, which could have easily been 0-3, against his best prime opponent during his own prime.

That said, whilst Tyson's star clearly burnt brighter, Holyfield's burnt longer, so it's another case of what you like.

Personally, I have Tyson higher, as he was way more dominant and further removed from the field during their respective primes.

 

Holyfield's loss count isn't helped by the fact he fought till 48 and at world level till 45.

 

Yeah, the 18-3 (when factoring in the quality of opposition and fights themselves) at HW during his prime, is a far more relevant indicator to his fair historical standing than his final 26-10-2 HW record.
