You learned how to use an emoticon. So surely you can learn what is and how to use a metaphor. Did Schmeling's defeat of Louis literally confirm Hitler's racial theories and Louis's defeat of Schmeling literally disconfirm Hitler's racial theories? No. Were Schmeling and Louis symbols of the struggle between democracy and fascism? Without a doubt.

There have been books, articles, and documentaries made about the fights. These are the sources academics use.

It's a metaphor. I hope this isn't the first time you have been exposed to one.

Manny is great. Joe is great. Muhammad is great. Joe struck a blow against fascism. Muhammad struck a blow against our misguided attempt to get in the middle of a civil war in Southeast Asia. Manny brought glory to the Philippines. He is definitely rhe most popular Filipino athlete, save Bautista. (Just Kidding)That being said as far as their exploits in the ring the whole PFP rating whether current or all time doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

"Billions" of people know who Pacquiao is? The context of your post was talking about the Phillipines and then you shifted to talking about global impact. Even on that note Pacquiao is clearly not known by "billions" of people, that's Michael Jordan status.

Jordan transcended his sport. Here's a list of athletes who transcended their sport- imho- Dempsey, Ruth, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nickalaus, Pele, Ali, Joe DiMaggio, and Joe Louis. Even non sports fans of their era knew who they were. I will leave it to others to decide if Manny was on that list. I remember when Earl Woods said that one day his son would be as popular as Ali. It was blashpemy to me at the time but in retrospect he knew what's up.

Throw out cultural impact if you will but athletes are also entertainers and an entertainer's goal is to get as many people as possible to watch him or her.

Not gonna explain how English works, but I said "if not billions" which means you're taking what I said out of context. The world has 8 billion people now btw.

I was making commentary about how Louis' global impact was US centric and existed in a world with about 1/4th of today's population.

With or without context your statement was wrong. The number of people immediately recognizing who Pac is wouldn't be anywhere near a billion, let alone billions. It's hilariously wrong.

I should have added Mike Tyson to my list of transcendent athletes.

You're the one who made the claim. Prove Pacquiao is recognized by billions of people.
