The funny thing about it is these same people here hating on Ward and saying he won't fight Kovalev will be the first ones to cry and make excuses if Ward beats him. They will say he's boring he ran he's dirty and never give him any credit for the win. These are the same posters who did that to Crawford as well. First Crawford would duck Postol then after he schools him he's boring and not give him any credit for the win. The cycle will continue to repeat itself.
I think that everybody accepts that he will fight Kova now. Gotta be honest, I had my doubts at one stage but this is going to happen. What's more he has a fair chance at winning following the Chilemba fight where Sergei looked less than his usual impressive self. Make no mistake, beating Kovalev is huge. Full credit from me, if he does.
If he was serious about fighting Kovalev, he would have fought someone at least decent in preparation. The fact he fought twice against awful opposition means something: he's going the Wilder route, he knows he ain't gonna enter the ring. The fight will bust. Surely a PED accusation. Bet on it.
Chilemba doesn't make anyone look good. He is extremely awkward and can control distance better than most LHWs. He als moves his body most of the time feinting and giving different looks. If he had any power he would of been a serious force. For me he is definitelygoing to become the litmus test of LHW. If you can beat Chilemba you have a shot at a LHW title. Sergei looked impressive from my point of view as I did not underrate Chilemba and Kovalev still won the majority of rounds. Chilemba is not as nearly good as Ward though imo. But I do think he can take a punch better. This fight Ward/Kovalev is one of the most exciting fights in boxing for the hardcore fan so many intangibles.
I honestly still don't think the fight will happen, especially not this year. However, if it does happen and Ward pulls off the wine deserves huge respect and the #1 P4P ranking. And I WILL be here to say it.
I don't think Andre is worried about losing to Kovalev. No reason to duck...not that he ever has. Now will he stay healthy until November? I am not 100% sure about that. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
I think Ward - Kovalev happens either this November, or next year if either of the two pick up an injury in the meantime. There's no reason for it not to happen, both Kovalev and Ward have been preparing for a while now with two tune-ups each, and it's a great fight. The winner will be p4p #1 in my books.
I dunno if this fight happens but hope it does. My skeptism comes from Ward's recent competition as it's very poor and not preparing him for a big fight against a big puncher with good skills. Ward also won't be able to get this fight to Oakland where he's going to have had both fights, so he's going to be really big fight rusty by November. Chilemba is a top 5 lightheavy and this version of Ward would be fortunate to even beat him IMO. I think alot of people are rating Ward too highly based on.........and let's be honest here. A win over Calzaghe leftovers, a guy shot jermain taylor was beating before he gassed, and a dead Chad dawson who mediocre but powerful Adonis chickenson KO'd in a round the very next fight. If that gets you on the top 5 p4p list then boxing needs help big time. KOvalev should win most of the rounds before he stops Ward in 9. Slag me off all you want, just come see me IF the fight happens in November to come get your tray of crow.
