When John L. Sullivan announced to a saloon-full "I can lick any sonavabitch in the house" he didn't seperate them by weight class. He meant ANY. He was the strongest and the best and challenged all comers.
I say boxing should go back to those days. Screw all of the weight classes and all of the championship categories. I want to know who can lick any sonavabitch in the house!
People critisize Holyfield, Jirov and even Byrd. So let them fight the best and see who is the toughest. If Mayweather or Pacquiao or Hatton is the best then lets match them with Holyfield or Jirov and see who wins. All of these weight classes are ridiculous and they are in place only to make money for the alphabet organizations. Meanwhile boxing fans have left the sport in part because there are too many weight classes and champions especially at the lighter weight divisions. Alot of casual fans think that the Jr. classes are either amateurs or under 18 years old. And can anyone take a flyweight, strawweight, minimumweight and even a flea-weight serious. Who the eff really cares? I am a long time boxing fan and I don't know any champion under welterweight and don't even care because I outweigh them by 100pounds and could probably kick thier asses in a phone booth.
When I go to the race track I am interested in the horses and not the jockeys.

The NFL is the best of football but you don't see weight classes on linemen and Payton Manning has to dodge Igor Olshansky though outweighed by 80 lbs.
Nor are there restrictions in the NBA. Spud Webb had to go over Shaq just like anyone else.

Lets see who the toughest sonavabitch in the house is and match anyone who thinks that they can beat the next guy whether or not its a 145 pounder taking on a heavyweight. If they get beat oh well at least they tried and if they win then they are a real champion.

If they are the best fighters then I say let them fight as man to man against Holyfield and Klitchko. Lets see who is the best. Not just the best at 140 pounds. What then about 141 pounds or 139 pounds? What BS it all is!

MMA has five weight classes. Boxing has SEVENTEEN! Why not go for a weight class at every pound? Why stop there? It can be split into decimals of pounds.
I want to see the biggest and the best just like the NFL or the NBA or the NHL. Not some 102 pound jr. interim continental youth title fight.
    What BS!

This thread is so idiotic on so many levels that I can not believe that I am even responding but.

John L Sullivan did not take on all comers he adamatly refused to fight any black man.

First of all I am not a kid. When I was a kid there were 8 weight classes and other kids knew who the champions were. There is no one on this forum who can name from memory who the champions are AND there is no one who can even name the weight dividions.
I want to know who is the toughest sonanvabitch in the house is and not the best 102 lb. interim continental youth champion. Why take the chihuahuas serious when the real fighters are the pit bulls? The chihuahuas may be entertaining but they are not the best.

    :patsch

Long time fan and don't know a champ under welter?

Get the **** out of here!

NFL is a game. Boxing is a true sport. Anybody can get a team of giants to run over a team of midgets. Does that prove the giants have skill? No, matching the giants against other giants the same size is the only way to determine that.

Hence Boxing... a TRUE sport, with weight classes.

I thikn this guy is on to something. Why stop with just eliminating weight classes though. What good is it to know that you can simply whoop every man. We should match ****ers up against silver back apes and lions and ****.

you dont sound like a boxing fan. There have been different weight classes in boxing for a long time. I have a feeling you're trolling trying to get a rise out of people.

I'm POSITIVE there are posters on this site who can name all the weight classes and champions of every weight class. I'm sure I could come pretty damn close.
