This was one of the dumber posts I have read. John L Sullivan would "lick any son of a ***** in the house" as long as he was WHITE. He ducked "The Black Prince" Peter Jackson and used the excuse "I will never fight a negro. I never have and never shall". Some champion. And this is boxing. Weight classes are needed, though not near as many as we have today. You should study a great deal more of the sweet science before leaving a ridiculous post like that.

The last weightclass added to boxing was added in 1987. So even if you are old it isn't like it was recent. I find it ridiculous that the lowest weight classes are only a few pounds apart but it does seem necessary. The true joke is the 50 different belts at each weightclass that leads to all the confusion. Just remember it is all about money.

Every pound matters in boxing because it is an advantage. That's why they have weight classes. Should there be as many weight classes as they do now? Maybe not, but the depth of boxing allows it to happen and the fact that there are few dominant champions shows that there are enough competitive fights in the divisions that multiple weight classes are not as bad an idea as people think.
The reason why MMA has so few weight divisions is that the field of top class fighters are far below that of boxing. The depth isn't there so they have to consolidate a lot more.

We should just go back to the original 8 weight classes, make light heavyweight 161-189lbs and return heavyweight to 190lbs thus elimating that cruiserweight crap. Roy Jones was proof that a skilled 190lbs heavyweight could still compete against a 220lbs+ opponent.

    heavyweight- wlad klitschko(wbo/ibf), vitali klitschko(wbc), haye(wba)

boom there it is all the world champs that i knw of sumone can fill me in wit the blanks or if i have any wrong.

you could not bill say ivan calderon vs vitali klitschko as a competitive fight even if calderon took the haye route n pissed him of to get the fight, i would class that as man vs boy or why dont we just call it child abuse because thats what it would be.

i would have no light or super divisions n would change the weights to make it work, that way the best would have to fight the best but you carnt expect a man who weighs 115lbs to fight a man who weighs 240lbs you would just end up with old school ufc without all the dry humping.

Desperate for money, Dempsey would occasionally visit saloons and challenge for fights saying "I can't sing and I can't dance, but I can lick any SOB in the house."

While I don't agree with the TS, I do agree that there are way too many weight classes, as well as titles, IMO Every Super/Jr weight class should be eliminated, the only recent weight class that should be around is Cruiserweight.
