It's hard to argue against SRR, I mean 25 years at the top fighting damn near every champion and top contender and winning, that's 3 decades of the greatest period in boxing and winning, also the greatest period for middleweights, too many people want to forget that.

most commentators past and present praise Ray Robinson and rightly so... IS he the best, I can never definately say yes, and I can't say that about anyone fighter either!

can people beat SRR yes and plenty of them, WHY because True Top men are just that Top men and they are all the best, or as we say among the best H2H, plain and simple!

like BB says there are more than a few who could beat him, and likewise he would beat them, he gets my vote in overall consideration, but he shares it with many others, more than people realise.

    On what criteria?

    Defenses? Hopkins/Monzon
    Competition? Burley/Williams/Greb
    Dominance at the weight? Hopkins/Monzon/Hagler
Best Performances at the weight? Robinson/Jones
    Longevity? Hopkins
    Head 2 Head? Jones/Robinson
Hardest to beat in their prime? Jones/Monzon
    Performances above 160? Jones/Greb

Greb was almost like a 168 lber most of the time. It's no blasphemy to put Monzon or Hagler above him at the weight.

Yeah that's a fair point about Greb, but equally RJJ was NO middleweight!

If i had seen Robinson fight live, id have an 'unhealthy obsession' with him too.:D

Maybe not the prettiest to watch but Monzon takes some beating, with Hagler not far behind. Ive heard and read some fantastic things about Greb but the lack of footage for me to judge for myself means i cant include him here. Just my take and no offense to Greb men:good

GA,let me remind you that Harry Greb at 5ft8" was a true middleweight. Just before his death in 1925-6 Greb was at 158-9 pounds against Mickey Walker and Tiger Flowers. Old and almost blind he licked the great Mickey Walker, then in his prime. Of course when Harry Greb took on great larger fighters as Tunney, Loughran,Dillon, Brennan, gunboat smith, etc, Greb would
come in heavier,to not go through the rigors of weight-making and food
deprivation all fighters go through to defend their belt. Why not enjoy himself
and still lick just about anyone he ever fought without the spartan life of weght making. I am sure that if Marvin Hagler took on a Mathew Saad, which
he never did, Hagler would come in at 165 pounds, and still be a middleweight champ weight-wise, when required.Today middleweights come in at walk-around weights of 165-70 during fight time. In Greb's tougher era, the fighters weighed in the same day of the fight. Conclusion : Harry Greb
was the most remarkable middleweight in history, and a helluva fighter to boot. Cheers...
